Even tennis uses the same concept and majority of tennis players are happy with it. DRS is supposed to get rid of howlers, not marginal decisions at least for now. You only review when you are 70-80% convinced that you got the wrong decision. It is better than getting dismissed for an umpiring blunder.

ok even tennis uses this concept that good, but not relevant to our operative point.

which is why should there not be decision support for every decision that an umpire makes ?

Take it off from a players hand if you will, but have the same degree of accuracy for every result, have a third off field umpier incharge of assisting the onfield umpier when they make a mistake, to correct it then and there. What should be prevented is after day 3 bad requests what if the possible 4th one is actually a bad decision that should be turned down ? would you be ok with it. What if after 3 marginal calls 4 bad calls went by but the team batting could not use DRS are you ok with that.

The tactical aspect is to realize which is a marginal decision and which is a blunder. And cricketers who play international cricket should know the difference. However in the sub continent it becomes about the ego of the batsman or bowler who wants to review.

How is it like a lottery? This is like saying when the white ball was introduced, bowlers claimed it was like a lottery because it doesn't reverse as much. You have to move with the times and pick up things.

agree with what you say. But India and pak is not similar. Indians should begin to differentiate ourselves from them in every sphere. There no subcontinent, there is India and Pak. May be BD has similarities with Bengal and Mahadesh with UP Bihar, and Bhutan with Darjeeling. But pakjab is not similar to punjab, the other side is terror republic. Follow your PM , i would urge you.

All you need to use DRS properly is just basic common sense. It's not as if England has acquired a specific set of skills to use DRS and have undergone speciality training.

If you use DRS just for the howlers and not for marginal decisions, you are never going to run out of your quota. Simple.

It's embarrassing to say India have no DRS skills. That's akin to saying Indians fail at simple logical reasoning and take rash decisions in the heat of the moment. Now to think of it, if we can't think objectively we don't deserve to enjoy the benefits of DRS. Here's to another 10 years of Rahane getting the wrong end of the stick from the umpires.

but why have them ? do you enjoy DRS skill display in cricket, its should be an Umpires job. I find it smug, may be some like it. I often feel like punching the smug english cricketers and their arrogant twitterati dont you ?, i'd love to see them get utterly humiliated this time here, not be able to read Ashwin/Jadeja and get a fine arse kicking while bowling strictly in cricket play no DRS smartarssness.

DRS = Questionable technology implemented in a ridiculous manner.

Hope the BCCI do not yield.

BCCI should force the others to implement a homegrown technolology or atleast implement a home competitor in matches where India plays.  No patents from UK or Aus basically. Crush them with a smile sweetly.

That is the ideal state and that could be available in the future when technology can make realtime decisions and the umpire in the middle is actually just a robot that conveys the same. We are not there yet. The way to look at this is that without DRS, even the first 3 decisions, which could potentially be howlers cannot be reviewed. At least with DRS, you have the cushion of challenging an obviously wrong decision. Remember Sydney 2008? How different could the result have been if we had the advantage of DRS.

I would be happy with at least Snick-o and hotspot. BCCI should put out a tender to the IITs and other top tech schools to develop a more reliable ball-tracking system, if they don't like Hawk-eye.

Common sense is not smartassery. I don't think using DRS requires any skills. All you need to do is to refer only the obvious howlers. The average casual cricket fan can easily spot a howler. Professional players should know when the umpire has made a blatant mistake. You are giving too much credit to the English if you think they use DRS better because they are smartasses.

Its a system designed to be fair to both teams. If England have used their reviews more judiciously then good for them.

Unless umpire's call is eliminated it will never be fair, how can same call have two different results.England always seems to get better calls from these umpire's call both with bat and ball.

India has the best record of using DRS in ICC tourneys AFAIK

How the heck was that Blackwood LBW decision was out, it did not even look out. Can predictive path of hawk eye be altered by technicians. He was on his toes and and we could see both off and middle.Unless that ball turned which it did not the angle should miss or just clip leg stump.

We have only agreed to meet these experts.

Our buffoons most likely won't have a clue of what they are explaining in the meeting and will just reject it again saying it isn't 100% .

No point raising ur hopes unless we actually to use it .

Our "experts" will decide based on the $ factor, not all this BS.  Let's see if the companies in question can come up with a price that BCCI won't refuse.

Lets see what level of DRS we have.If any that is.

But i have serious issues bringing DRS for an ENG series. They seem to be always getting the benefit of DRS.

Then that's because they know when and how to use it. SA have done well with the usage of DRS too.

With all the criticism of Dhoni, one thing he does well as a captain is his judgement of DRS based on his usage of them during WC's.

Correction... Sehwag had no DRS skills.. He wasted it twice in two important games (SF and Final) in WC 2011.

Otherwise, India has used DRS pretty smartly in ICC tournaments

India have agreed to use DRS for the Test series against England on "trial basis" "to evaluate the improvements made" in the system. India played in the first series with umpire reviews, against Sri Lanka in 2008, but this will be the first time since then that there will be a bilateral series involving India with all the components of DRS in place.

"We are happy to note that Hawkeye has institutionalised all the recommendations made by BCCI, and we confirm that this improved version of DRS will be used on a trial basis during the forthcoming series against England," the BCCI president Anurag Thalur said. "Based on the performance of the system and the feedback that we will receive, further continuation in forthcoming series will be decided. We recognise the enhanced role of technology in sport, and BCCI will lead such initiatives in coming days, and enrich the viewer experience."

Good move from BCCI. Even thought there have been doubts over this issue whether India will be able to use it effectively or not and whether 2 reviews are sufficient, I think this team will do well considering they generally seem to be well aware of where their stumps are. Players like Vijay, Kohli, Pujara, Rahane and Rahul have lot of awareness on field and I think are good to make judgement in these cases.
