Evolution of Pandya  means, India will more often then not play with 5 bowlers (4.5 to be precise) and then u will need a keeper who can bat like bairstow or kock and sadly saha does not make the cut..

Pandya is a no. 7, ashwin 8 and bhuvi 9..last test matches they all played one position up

Yes Saha should be dropped based on one match. Also drop kohli.and pujara using same logic

Its not about one match.. Its about team combination.. Earlier India used to play with 4 bowlers then saha was fine but now u need a keeper batsmen..

Cant believe how frequently these retarded threads keep popping up.

Dont comment if u dont understand the logic..

Its not for next test match its going forwad in future.. If pandya plays as an all rounder then we would need a keepeer who can bat much better then saha..

I mean batting was always beneficial but india while playing with 4 bowlers and in subcontinent ashwin/jadega both play and are handy with the bat.. So focus on saha's batting ability was much less..

Now in overseas. There is only one spinner and with saha not as good as bairstow or kock,  Indian batting looks thin.Saha is a brilliant keeper but....

To expand the discussion, let's assign some values using Saha as an example:

Topic = Index

WK = 100

Batting = 100 (Avg 31)

Let's say to accept 5% a drop in WK performance, we have to match that by say 5x of the drop in wk-keeping performance in batting performance

So if the replacement is

WK = 95 (-5 frpm index)

Batting = 31 * 1.25 (5*5=25% more) = 39 Average (close to 40)

If the replacement is

WK = 90

Batting = 31* 1.5 (10*5=50% more) = 46 Avg

if the replacement is

WK = 85

Batting = 31*1.75 = 54 Avg (i.e. being played mainly for his batting abilities)

Parthiv's batting avg is 34. For Pathiv, (0.9 to 0.95 WK capability of Saha) to replace Saha his avg should be in the 40-45 range. And Parthiv is not starting fresh where he needs to be "groomed"

So you would choose Patel a specialist opening batsman who has Test  avg 33.76 with 0 test centuries 6 fifties who has had 16 yrs to get better since debut against Saha specialist wicketkeeper with  Test avg 30.63 with 3 centuries and 6 fifties .

What will 3 runs per innings and poorer wicketkeeping bring to the party?

Look for others, u can even ask msd to come out of retirement in tests. Msd should take retirement from t-20 instead
