  • Citizens 'DUTY-BOUND' to show respect.
  • Be it stated, the time has come, the citizens of the country realize that they live in a nation and are duty-bound to show respect to the national anthem.
  • The Anthem must be accompanied by images of Indian Tricolor Flag.

  • The ruling comes slightly more than a month after a man in a wheelchair was struck and harassed by fellow theater-goers for not standing while the national anthem was being played in Goa.

How many Indians go to flag hoisting ? Or nowadays even stand up for national anthem. Play national anthem on a busy street and watch for yourself. Soilders are protecting our country and dying every day. They just don't do it for money they do it out of love for the country. Here OP has a problem of standing 5 mins for the national anthem.

No problems, but sometimes, some values that are good to have voluntarily, become evil when enforced. This is one of them.

It also loses meaning when its enforced, coz atleast now, you know who genuinely is a patriot by playing the national anthem. With this law, Dawood Ibrahim is just as much a patriot as Vallabhai Patel...

Why should I go to a flag hoisting? Why should I stand up?

How different is this imposition than any religious fatwa? I believe in humanity, I am not a nationalist.

You are wrong, most fauji's join army for money. Check their background, 95% of them hail from lower-middle class.

I feel National Flag is not something to be taken out for frivolous reasons like going for a movie.

I will go a step ahead and say it is disrespectful to have it playing at movie theatres .What has movies got to do with the national flag ?

It is a ridiculous 'fatwa' .

Not with the SC on this one.

It is just giving ammunition to vigilantes and idiots.

Ridiculous Rule.

You want to be patriotic...pay taxes, shun social evil ,help in nation building in other ways .

I'm not particularly patriotic, but it makes sense to stand up and remain silent when the national anthem of any country is played anywhere in a public setting to avoid coming across as being disrespectful.

Mandating it and asking private entities (cinema halls) to actually play it looks outright silly and fascist.

Asking people to respect the national symbols is one thing, but ordering private entities to play the anthem is ridiculous. The SC has gone outright loony. Makes one wonder about the effectiveness of the separation of powers in our democracy. We don't seem to have enough checks and balances to curb the abuse of power by the judiciary. The SC is also showing signs of judicial overreach in other cases. This could turn out to be dangerous in the long run.

I am fed up of people burning garbage specially plastic waste...pls show a pledge of not burning garbage ( esp. plastic) before movie screening, in school prayers daily...air will be a lot cleaner , wewill all live a healthier and longer life.

This is one of those few things I disagree. You can't shove down nationalism down people's throat, it devalues and disrespects nationalism too.

Don't agree with it...but then again those compulsory anti-smoking ads is something people sit through impatiently every movie anyways....so this is just another add-on inconvenience for a few more minutes...people will get over it....don't see a big deal here.

SC has been over reaching for some time. SC is not a law making body, they should be swiftly made aware of this swiftly Ravi Shankar Prasad  is the man. But what if BJP wanted this in the first place.
