I still dont understand why Pant was sent in at number 5 today when in the last game when batting first and in an easier situation Dhoni was sent in.One does not want to to believe conspiracy theories but the weirdness has reached the limits in this era.

What you are saying is right, I fully expected Pant to come in ahead of Dhoni today and it happened

Dhoni has always been promoted in easier situations. It's been happening since his debut. :dontknow:

Next ODI is at Mumbai where big hitting has the tendency to change the game .... dew could be a factor as well

We would need Pant for his 6 hitting abilities

My prefered 11 from those in the squad: Rohit, Dhawan, Kohli, Rahul, Pant, Jadhav, Kuldeep, Bhuvi, Umesh, Khaleel, Bumrah .... because of the relative small ground and potential of dew have gone with 4 pace/medium pace bowlers .... Jadhav can combine with Kuldeep to bowl spin. If dew is not expected to be a factor, one more specialist spinner can be considered in place of the relatively quick bowlers

I didn't watch most of the game today but this was the first thing that came to my mind. Last game dhoni came at 5, this game pant. Why?  Are they deciding batting spots by toss? Why not a player let set at one particular number first?

May be after yesterday dissmisal they have lost faith on dhoni and have decided to back pant ahead of him, now that dhoni is also dropped

But m jst assuming as of now, this theory goes out of window if next match pant comes at 6 again

Because MSD would have tuk- tukoed for 20 ball 10-11 runs  and run rate would have gone betond chase for all others to chase .

I think even TM now knows what will happen when MSD goes to bat when run rate around 6 or 6+.

Bit of a bad luck for Pant , had he scored 45-50  , there  was every chance for the rest to close  game as  run rate would have

come down to 5.5 per over  kinda range to chase .

For me logic of sending Pant at 5 at that time looked right.

I was about to start a thread on this lol. Jadhav will walk into the side but who is he going to replace. You can't drop Biryani as he has just been backed as the 1st choice no. 4 and got a 70 in the previous game. Can't drop Dhoni either. So it's either Pant or your 5th bowler i.e. Khaleel.

They may make Jadhav bowl 10 overs to keep Greybeard in the team.  If Windies top order does decent, then their sluggers might hit Jadhav for 12-15 6s. maybe more.
