Dravid urges decisive call on Dhoni, Yuvraj's role in team

Recommended Posts

Yuvraj should go. While he possesses the same grace and style of before in his stroke making,  he appears to be slow, is taking time to get started, and doesn't inspire confidence.

Dhoni, I think is still a good wicket keeper and a fine cricketing mind.  But as a batsman he has lost it.  Since 2016 he is averaging 34 in ODIs, compared to his ODI career batting average of close to 51.  He should go too.

I wouldnt drop Jadeja and Ashwin so easily. C'mmon guys...Jaddu invariably gives us 1 run out every game. He is the best fielder in the world and we need his energy in the field. Ashwin I still believe has to offer once he recovers completely.

Jaddu has 1 runout in his last 15 ODI games. :giggle: And possibly even more matches than that since didn't bother to check. :giggle:

Is it what you call invariably one run out per game.? :laugh1:

Selecting a player for fielding is the most idiotic thing keep hearing irritatingly. While there are many on whom the importance of a good fielder is lost there are some crazy guys at the other extreme.

A batsman or bowler or allrounder should do his job of batting or bowling or both good respectively  and should be a safe fielder. If he is good fielder ,it is an advantage.

No way fielding is worthy of same stature as batting or bowling. Players cannot be selected for their fielding alone.

Then make him a specialist fielder. He has no business being in the playing XI.

Except for Dhoni, I accept Yuvi, Ashwin, Jadeja, Rohit and Jadhav should only be selected based on performance. We will never have a wk like Dhoni in the near future and we should use him till he asks himself to retire. All other teams would love to have a WK like Dhoni and we are very lucky to have him.

Dravid just repeating what many of us have been saying for a while. Give younger & hungrier talents the chance instead if turning the team into a retirement home.

Issue is who is listening? The current selectors are brain dead as just seem to pick the same 15 or so players for every series or tournament.

Its ridiculous that in the last few years you can count the number of debuts on one hand thanks to the closed shop selection policy. Its harder to get dropped from the national team then getting into it

Personally I would bring in a bunch of fresh faces including Pant, Kuldeep and the like on the eve of the WC 2019 but not too soon. These guys get all the confidence they need from IPL. Hardik Pandya is in that zone where he's had a handful of games yet has nothing to lose. There is no expectation right now but there will be. I think that's what has served Pak well in this tournament. I'm all for getting youngsters to explode onto a scene but note they will be found out if you move too soon. I would even go as far as saying we should build a team that can specially counter Pakistan. We are going to meet them again in the round robin and they are on the up.

That's pretty dumb. Pak team is alright but apart from Fakhar Zaman they have no good batsman. You saw how Babar Azam was struggling even with the great start they had? And Fakhar will be a flash in the pan. You are overrating these Pakistan team. And why in the world would you wait till the last minute to play Pant and Kuldeep? Novelty factor? That makes no sense at all. You play them now and let them mature so when the world cup comes around, they dont feel awed by the big stage.

That means Jaddu can only used as a substitute player.

With Mickey Arthur and Inzi at the helm, I think the current Pak team may have much more success

Post-retirements, Dravid has become more valuable than SRT hands down. When Dravid speaks you can be assured that he speaks that benefits Team India.

SRT will never open his mouth , we have seen him during ipl spot fixing. Always diplomatic for the board officials.

Hah hah

they also when t20 World Cup in England . Afurdi man of tournament .

They sucked after that and will after this . Mark my words . Their team already peaked

Don't see their batting as a threat yet. I do not want to take anything away from their young players, but Zaman looks like a hitter who will succeed certain days and fail more often, unless he changes his game.

Bowling in ODIs will vary. It's fair to say Pakistan bowled well in this tournament but these same guys were getting whacked in Australia earlier and I see the same being continued. In fact, no bowling attack in the world is spared from whacking. Be it Australia, England or anyone. With the way the ODI game has changed over the years since the 2020 popularity, every bowling team looks okayish, even though they might have couple of good bowlers.

You can always play out the best bowlers and score of other bowlers. India just missed that trick in the final

I don't see this Pakistani team succeeding much with these same set of players. They will continue to beat teams like Windies may be but not the top 3-4 teams on regular basis. '

They will do well in Dubai because of their spinners, but thats about it. I don't think this is a great team.

I must say, if not for our fk up in the final, Pakistanis would be asking for change in captaincy and change in their squad already.

Pakistan may be on the up, but as Pandya's bowling showed - their batting is still chock full of holes.   They relied on a lottery of an innings from Fakhar, which required a no-ball to save him.   I don't think India need to worry so much specifically about Pakistan.  As long as the known issues with the team - wicket-taking spinner, spinner allrounder at #7 behind Hardik Pandya, improved execution and run-scoring in the top 15 overs - if these are addressed along with the changing of the guard in the middle order, we'll be able to handle not just Pakistan, but any team.
