Karthik avg 27-28 in tests so it is hard to justify his place as a specialist test batsman esp since he has been around for a long time .... As a WK who can bat, or vice versa, yes .... We know he has the talent but if we are considering talent, Pant would rate higher

he retired the wrong format ( but he wanted to be relevant in LOI for himself, but was a dbetter test player - but may be he might not have been able to keep in tests because of duration of the game.

I'll take that as a compliment.  Looks like you've forgotten the stand-still statue pose of MSD while precious edged catches went past him on previous tours to England.  Wriddhi-pops is legit all-world quality with the gloves. Prime Saha over Prime Dhoni in away test cricket - all day, every day.

Safe to say this is likely unless it's a really dry surface.

Make one of them as keeper and the other as a slip fielder. Our slip catching has been extraordinarily horrendous. Hopefully, them being keepers, they will be more alert to chances that come up.

As it is, on the batting front, Dhawan (if it isn't a road-like flat track) and Pujara are going to be walking wickets.

There is no rule, but what if a catch is dropped when inferior keeper replaces better one. It's not about question of ego. Unlike other roles, sharing keeping doesn't make it better. Catch drop would be more costly during long tough day.

3.rahane - this guy is Rahul dravid's heir in overseas conditions not chepu..

6. Dhawan - won't face swing straight away and a good opportunity for him to score heavily in his regular style. This way I bake the cake and eat it too..

7. Pant - I want my best keeper, batting is secondary. In general, I would Rather have a keeper who will take all the catches and not the guy who misses 25 percent catches but scores 20 runs more..

 

Bowling combos: (bumrah not available for  1st game)

 

A. Overcast, Green mamba - shami, Umesh, ishanth, thakur - 4 genuine seamers

 

B. Hot, Green only for first two days - shami, Umesh, ishanth, Ashwin 

 

C. Hot, dry spin pitch - Umesh, ishanth, Ashwin, Kuldeep 

 

Basically I am playing only 4 bowlers in conditions I am confident we can pick 20 wkts

 

D. Flat batting wickets, hot conditions - I will remove pujara and play 5 bowlers

Shami, ishanth, Umesh, Ashwin, Kuldeep

 

I won't consider pandya as he is neither here nor there. If pushed hard, I would rather prefer jadeja instead of Ashwin but never pandya..

The official statement on Ashwin is that he has picked up a minor injury and did not play as a precautionary measure.

 

He is supposed to be fit by the first test.

If a keeper outscores genuine batsmen in a season, he is still looked as a keeper batsman and not purely on his batting skills.  On what basis is Karthik or pant lesser than Karun Nair ?

They are not, just like DK being used to open in our last successful campaign in 2007. It's just that no one thought Rahane or Yadav should play in SA, likewise none ever thinks that a keeper can be specialist bat as well.

This selection committee is pathetic. They are not giving chance to pant the only format where he can be more successful and establish himself for future, and we know because of whom.
