Mariyam Posted January 18, 2020 Posted January 18, 2020 As of late, the cricketing world in general and ICF in particular seem to be very unduly excited at the prospect of upcoming fast bowlers and their speeds/ speed guns and the like. I just don't get the infatuation. Its a batsman's game. As things have progressed over the years, bowlers are going to end up doing 'damage control' more than winning you matches. We already have teams where the batting line up runs till no.8/9. Its never the other way around. To have bowlers till: 2 or 3 down. In the given circumstances, why would anyone want to be a pacer. Its a lot of hard work, your shelf life is comparatively shorter vis a vis other bowlers/batsmen and you tend to be more injury prone. And if you are going to get tonked anyways, you might as well walk a few steps and throw a spinning delivery as against come charging in all huffing and puffing and then watch the ball go for a boundary. That must be a terrible feeling. To have put so much into the delivery only to see it dispatched to the boundary because of batsmen friendly field restriction etc etc. What gives? prudent_kreeda Posted January 18, 2020 Posted January 18, 2020 Please think why Quality pacers go for astronomical bids in every auction around the world . they and quality all rounders are the rare species . You cannot produce real quality pacers by the Dozen. There is nothing more exciting than seeing an extremely express bowler terrorizing batsmen in a cricket ground . While watching them you as a spectator will get a chill down your spine ! Ankit_sharma03, rock777, Laaloo and 5 others 7 1
Popular Post express bowling Posted January 18, 2020 Popular Post Posted January 18, 2020 (edited) Greats teams have always had great bowlers and great fast bowlers. Have not seen any exception. In test matches, the only way to win is by taking 20 wickets. Even if the batsmen score 1000 runs, if the bowlers don't take 20 wickets then a team cannot win a single match. In LOIs, the easiest way to win consistently is by taking opposition wickets at regular intervals or in bunches ... and take them quickly. This is because it takes just 1 good ball to dismiss a set batsman. But a batsman has to put in a lot of effort to put up a winning score. Let's take yesterday's ODI for example. Kuldeep and Shami were bowling poorly but both changed the course of the match after bowling 1 good over each. While Smith could not win the match after batting well for around 100 balls. Who says it is a batsman's game ? Why do people become fast bowlers ? For the thrill and adrenaline rush. Edited January 18, 2020 by express bowling Suhaan, zen, Mosher and 11 others 6 8
express bowling Posted January 18, 2020 Posted January 18, 2020 (edited) The biggest advantage that fast bowlers have over medium pacers is that ... the skilful quick bowlers or tall and bouncy pacers can become all condition bowlers while medium pacers rarely do. Another reason why captains want quick bowlers is because ... cricket is played with a very hard ball. Batsmen don't like getting hit on the body by a quick bowler ... and the possibility of this gives the team with good fast bowlers psychological advantage. The opposition fear them. Khota Posted January 18, 2020 Posted January 18, 2020 Problem is the Indian culture where batsman are heroes and bowlers are treated poorly. Good pacce bowlers for their limited shelf life should always command the maximim money. Mariyam and express bowling 1 1
jf1gp_1 Posted January 18, 2020 Posted January 18, 2020 because we are yet to produce a bowler who consistently hits 150
Nikhil_cric Posted January 18, 2020 Posted January 18, 2020 There is absolutely nothing unhealthy about. All else being equal, pace is what makes the difference. I'm not talking about express. But a bowler averaging minimum 137/138 kph in test cricket is a prerequisite for all -condotions greatness. Mariyam, Vijy and express bowling 2 1

Mods: Please move this to chit chat if need be. Since cricket started and until1970's cricket always remained a bowlers game because: 1. The wickets were uncovered which made the wickets tough to bat on. 2. Bodyline bowling wasdone purposely by bowlers - now there are restrictions on bouncers in test matches. 3. The groundsmen were not as skilled and had less experienced assistants with lesser knowledge in those times. 4. Skull caps came very late, so did other protective gear like grilled helmets, the neck flap (since Phil Hughes incident) etc. Last century was so much in favor of bowlers. They had a tough time. This century let it get even stevens and no wrong if it becomes Batsman friendly game for a century. Perfectly fair when we recollect the events which we have watched during our lifetime. Mariyam 1

Though good fast bowlers, since they are relatively rare, eventually get $$$ too On the other hand, if you are a Doda Ganesh (though he may have a good FC record), trying to be a Donald, that unhealthy obsession may not turn out well unless someone like Dhoni spots you to play for CSK Edited January 18, 2020 by zen Vijy, express bowling, Mariyam and 3 others 6

putrevus Posted January 19, 2020 Posted January 19, 2020 Fast bowlers are the ace in the pack, they are the match winners in any format. They are the lifeline of the cricket.Cricket becomes a boring game without fast bowlers. This is the golden age for Indian fast bowlers that is why there is excitement to see fast bowlers.
