Should there be another IPL in April-May 2021?

As per schedule, there is another IPL scheduled in 5 months time

Think they should 2 more teams and make it 2 groups. The tournament is way too long.

More like the World Cup Format 

 

Two Groups A and B with five teams each. 

  

The  Top two teams of each group qualify for the Semi Finals.

 

Total number of matches = 10 matches of Group A + 10 matches of Group B + 2 Semis + Finals = 23 Matches in the tournament .

 

Shorter and more exciting format even with more teams .

 

Problem will be no home and away matches during the first round .

2 T20 WCs in next 2 years, and our trophy drought is getting irritating. So yeah IPL edition is welcome...just hope selectors/TM use it to their advantage instead of filling the side with Rahanes and Thakurs.

Pretty sure Ipl will receive preference over bilaterals  from general audience too.

that was never in doubt. and its not just bilaterals, even test series and t20 world cups will get less preference than ipl from normies. hell by 2023 even odi wc would become less popular than ipl among normies. thats just where things are headed

I guess cricket is fast becoming a franchise sport like football with less international cricket and  more club/premier league cricket.

instead of these meaningless bilaterals against west indies and srilanka.. play as many IPL matches as possible. Standard is so much higher.

Here is my wish for the IPL format in the future. Let us say the top 6 of the season automatically qualify which makes playing for every position an exciting game in the IPl. Stakes her high for a team to not get the wooden spoon.

 

The 2 teams that finished bottom along with other new teams let us say 4 more new teams  should play a qualification IPL. So 12 IPL teams in total.

 

The winner and runner up will qualify for the main IPL of 8 which will be held in the usual format.

 

Main IPL can have a window, qualifiers can happen during off season. Off season for now eventually in the future only IPL . Screw international cricket bar WC’s. Tests can have specialists who can play the “true” Format.

 

Also the finals should be a best of 3 kind of like base ball playoffs which are best of 7. One final each at home/away and the mega final in a neutral venue.

 

Make the finals like a super bowl event. Let the time outs be the slot  when big production houses  can release their trailers or brands can launch innovative IPL exclusive ads etc etc. have an international artist perform in the lunch break. Go full Uncle Sam.

 

The IPL is already a monster but has scope to be the scariest monster ever. Imagine how many brands will kill to advertise in this format.

Bhai am thinking why not a third one again in September-November & officially make this a twice a year event. I ll chose IPL over useless bilateral designed for home bullying.

That is how it should be, so that many more talented cricketers can earn a livelihood. Bilateral LOI SERIES should be cut drastically to enable more league cricket.

Much needed event during these pandemic times to help support the Indian economy in whatever little way it can. Will help generate revenue and some employment across sectors like media, hospitality, sports journalism, umpires, coaches and support staff and whichever other ways it can even though in a limited way. It also helps domestic players improve more and get experience of playing a match which tests them under more pressure. Would be nice to have another IPL soon

Absolutely! Spring edition and winter edition. They should bring back the champions league which used to feature the best teams from various T20 leagues. Don't pakao viewers with stat padding bilateral bs series.

I think it has become pretty clear by now that IPL will almost never become an overkill no matter how often it's played. 

 

We'll take a DC vs KXIP anyday over India Vs Sri Lanka.
