Aussies with heavy sledging in the final hours of the match

This match showed the real character of the two teams. The Indian team looked like a team of injured but strong warriers and the australian team looked like  juvenile  brats.

His previous statement was enough to get to Paine's head that he had to call him a dickhead. so weak No further convo necessary. Plus he had a job to do. This was not a dick measuring contest to see who is the most wittier. In either case, Ashwin won by KO.

I am fine with sledging provided fielders are not talking as bowler is starting to run/walk in to bowl the delivery. Ashwin today stepped away when Lyon who already has a short run up was walking into bowl and players were still talking.

 

You can't talk when the bowler is delivering, you just can't. Talk all the shyt you want before the ball has been bowled or after the ball has been bowled and between the overs too. Great on Aswhin to step away not once but thrice in that over..

Ashwin dealt with it perfectly. Remember sledging is aimed not just to insult someone, the main purpose is to ensure the player loses focus and does a mistake. 

 

Ashwin did give back, but soon realized he needs to just walk away & get back focus. No point in playing into their hands by continuously engaging them.

So, I have a tangential question.  When I played gully cricket in my younger days, I would "sing" (more like bray, but whatever) loudly while batting.  Even in my stance.  It would stop as the bowler was in stride. 

 

Just whatever random song - Carnatic, Kishore Da, Rahman - just whatever came to my mind.  Same song for 1 inning.  It helped me focus and not see/hear what others were saying.  People laughed, but no one complained about it.  Am I just a total weirdo or has any batsman playing real cricket done anything of that sort?

No, nothing weirdo about it. Sehwag did same many times he said. People find different ways to concentrate or have different mannerisms when the bowler is running in. Some keep moving, shaking parts of their body, some keep looking down, while some chew the gum but even for that you have to concentrate to add that habit. You don't want to be distracted by some outsider(fielder) talking in while bowler is running in. Your mind is just used to understanding the crowd noise which will be plenty in a cricket ground, but your mind will be distracted if one of the slip fielders or a short leg fielder is talking while a bowler is running into bowl. Our system is too used to getting distracted when someone is speaking besides us.

Paine dropped a catch next over and even Warner, Smith looked to be annoyed with him.

That is the most flattering thing anyone has ever told me about my (rudimentary) sporting skills :-)!!

Ozzie sledging was worse than I first thought.  I had missed the post-tea session in real time on Day 5, so last night I went back and watched the archived video ball by ball to get a real feel for how everything unfolded.  

 

On more than one occasion, the Ozzies mocked Ashwin's cough (in both innings, when Ashwin was hit on his chest, he was going into coughing bouts).  Once Warner (nice Sunriser, my arse) and once Wade both mocked him after getting hit by the ball.  I remember the Warner one really well - he fielded a ball, it hit his hand and then hit his throat.  He got up, returned the ball and started mock-coughing holding his throat and fake-beckoning for help from the dressing room.  During the Paine altercation, there were others fake-coughing in the background. 

 

On another occasion, one of them (Wade?) started holding his leg in fake pain and again fake-beckoned for help - surely mocking Vihari.  

 

This behavior is completely uncalled for and defies any sense of decency.  Posters here have even tried to say "that's how they play their cricket. They are tough. And enjoy tough comebacks"  Utter trash "boys will be boys" argument.  This is not toughness by any stretch of imagination.  It's like their bodies have grown into men, but their minds are stuck in middle school.  I would have been tempted to ask "Dave, when did your teacher let you out of detention?"  "Dave, isn't it time to do your sums and go to bed?"  Or something like that to show them what little prick middle-schoolers they are?

 

Thankfully, Ashwin and Vihari kept the big picture in mind and ignored the twits.
