In the case of Wankhede the stadium was build in less than 2 years and named after a sitting mca president. This stadium is named after the administrator of Gujarat cricket who envisioned it. Simple. They could have taken it the high way by making a past freedom fighter and statesman like Sardar Patel on whose name the previous ground was named. Or call it the Ahmedabad cricket ground like MCG. if they want to go full corporate, call it the reliance stadium like the US grounds do. naming the ends after sponsors is a bit tacky. Some may think this is trolling libs but doesnt look well from an outsider's perspective. This will lead others to think India is like a socialist/communist country that worships its dictators which was kinda true in the Gandhis' time. Same with the FSK renamed as Jaitley staduim. The very fact such a large sports complex has been built with private funds suggests this is anything but socialist. I would also argue that Bjp has always been better than Congress in terms of building physical infrastructure. The sports complex which houses the stadium is Sardar Patel sports complex. As is the airport in the city.

I have a Spanish friend and he tells me that Spain see their small Portuguese neighbours as a minor little country and almost like a colony of Spain. They never compare themselves to Portugal.
