1. Lack of match practice unlike NZ.

2.In first innings tail collapsed,instead should have added 20-30 runs.Gill+Rohit+Pant+Rahane threw away their wickets in first inning.Otherwise 300+ score was likely.

4. Bumrah looked completely out of touch.

5. Kohli choked on final day -should have played at least 80 balls.

6.NZ bowlers were tired on final day.Pant+Jadeja+Ashwin could have played at least 20 more overs but all of them looked panicked.

Bumrah's failure is the real shocker for me. all others were more or less expected but damn. I was worried about Rohit, Shami and Ashwin but not bumrah. 

0, 0, 0, 0 in all innings with bat and ball. just the most impact less experience from our best player

Cant blame the tail but why fast bowlers lack basic batting skills? No team can afford 4 number 11s and this is what is stopping us from playing a four-prong pace attack even in helpful conditions.

Every batting and bowling all-rounder we have is a spinner (Jadeja, Ashwin, Axar). The options with pace are only Shardul and the T20 guys Pandya+Bhuvi.

Compare this with NZ (Jamieson, Southee, Wagner), Aus (Cummins, Starc, Green) and England (Stokes, Woakes, Wood, Archer). Allows greater balance to the side and they can pick remaining bowlers for pure skill.

That's why you pick shankar and thakur. It's simple logic. Not hard.

Batting in the 2nd innings, as mentioned in Vikrant uncle's show today India needed to bat sensibly in the morning session with their most experienced batters on crease. Then after that even NZ would have started to feel desperate but we messed up. Poor judgement by Pant & Ashwin, along with non - existent tail lead to this defeat.

Kohli match selection 

 

needed inform batters . 
thakur , sundar and Siraj were in form . Needed them in place of ashwin jadeja and bumrah 

easily could have made difference of 40-50 runs 

bumrah had left midway last series for marriage . He is not having the former pace or movement .

These were the game defining moments where India lost the game from this point onwards.

 

0/62 First Day From here bowled for 217, should have score 300+

 

NZ 7/192 and ended up with 249, should have bowled them out for around 220 or under.

 

India 1/51 just before lunch, bowled out for  170, should have scored 250 with a defendable 220+ run lead.

 

This was the key moments, both batsmen and bowlers of India failed to take the initiative.

You don't pick bowlers based on batting ability instead make your bowlers able to bat.  Likes of Cummins have worked on their batting.
