sarcastic Posted February 14, 2022 Posted February 14, 2022 No disrespect to Surya Kumar Yadav, but a team needs wicket-keeper first and foremost than a batsman. Every playing XI of cricket team has a member titled (c) and a member titled (wk). While Ishan Kishan was sought after given that he is a wicket keeper batsman and second in choice for Indian team, there is no doubt that his auction price is as big as the first retainee. Whereas for SKY, I can see him not necessarily fetching how much he was retained for (especially after the fielding he displayed in West Indies series). The only thing I see is MI tried to retain him but Ishan Kishan did not want to be a third choice retention given how much he eventually fetched.
bowl_out Posted February 15, 2022 Posted February 15, 2022 Yes, it was a no-brainer to retain Ishan Kishan.. Called this way back.. There was no way SKY was going for 15 crore.. End of the day, it is a couple of crore here and there.. as long as they got what they wanted. velu, nevada and Vijy 1 2
Lord Posted February 15, 2022 Posted February 15, 2022 they are very lucky Kishan didnt get picked up in drafts. velu and bowl_out 2
Ankit_sharma03 Posted February 15, 2022 Posted February 15, 2022 yes sky wnt have gone that high in auction as kishen have due to that extra dimension kishen has
zen Posted February 15, 2022 Posted February 15, 2022 SKY is "loyal" to Rohit so probably got the preference.
Majestic Posted February 15, 2022 Posted February 15, 2022 (edited) Wrong here. SKY would have gone high too because he would have been a captain that other teams would look on to. Kolkata, Gujarat, Bangalore would have gone for him not only as pure batsman but also to make him a captain. Edited February 15, 2022 by Majestic Cricspin, Stan AF and Swag 1 2
QuarantineTormentino Posted February 15, 2022 Posted February 15, 2022 He is 30+ so CSK would have easily broken the bank for him. There’s a reason CSK didn’t bid for Kishan vvvslaxman, I6MTW, Vk1 and 3 others 6
Vk1 Posted February 15, 2022 Posted February 15, 2022 QDK, DK, Bharat and other wicket keepers were in auction so MI could focus on Kishan.. imagine SKY in auction.. only consistent indian finisher with 360 game..would break all records Swag, Cricspin and Clarke 3

sensible-indian Posted February 15, 2022 Posted February 15, 2022 Indian middle order batsmen (who are actually good) are like gold-dust. That's why even average bats like Shreyas Iyer and duds like Pandey fetch good prices. Vk1 1

Yeah thats true. But the teams who don't have a solid Indian middle order don't do well consistently. The reason Punjab sucks is cos they rely on Maxwells and Millers to finish (who are poor to begin with). The reason CSK and MI win so many tourneys is cos they have solid Indian middle order which makes it easier to outsource big hitting to foreigners. Lord 1

Which only contributes to India's middle order problems, as we dont get to see more candidates from India excelling in this position.

I guess both teams were giving him the option to be their second player, but he wanted to be the first. But can't rule out he wanted to play for Mumbai only. Lord 1
