Austin 3:!6 Posted August 25, 2022 Posted August 25, 2022 Players can say all they want that it is 'just another game'. But I am sure they gets affected by the hysteria created outside. Our media, fans, ex-cricketers continuously talking about this game. As a result, it has become 'the game' and not just another match. Even a small handshake between Kohli-Babar and people are going crazy on twitter. This hysteria created outside was the main reason we underperformed against them in WT20. There were political statements, religious statements, immense peer pressure before that match and when our players took the field on that day they looked scared. We are repeating the same mistake again. I hope Rohit will guide the team better and make them realize it is just a cricket match against another opposition.
vvvslaxman Posted August 25, 2022 Posted August 25, 2022 Current rivalry is significantly less than the rivalry of the past. In 1996 world cup Mohammad Akram literally choked Lord and sage 2

IndianRenegade Posted August 25, 2022 Posted August 25, 2022 India Pakistan games come with a pressure which permeates beyond what happens on the field, this is not a recent phenomena. What might be different now is that players aren't as familiar with each other, earlier there was lot of bilateral & they even played some IPL together. This could add to pressure as you haven't practiced your plans against your opposition a lot, but this is also the case with Pakistan except they are the underdogs in the recent times. Players can't control fans reactions, so instead of worrying about how fans are reacting they should just worry about their game. Frustrated 1
Sgattick10 Posted August 25, 2022 Posted August 25, 2022 More then fans, it's the media.. Already 30 videos available on YT talking about the game and spicing up the so called rivalry SRT100, Austin 3:!6, express bowling and 1 other 1 3

Norman Posted August 25, 2022 Posted August 25, 2022 What underperforming? We won 15 out of the last 21 games played against them since 2010. And this is the period where Indo-Pak games got immense hype thanks to enormous growth in MSM usage. sandeep, Clarke and Swag 3
nevada Posted August 25, 2022 Posted August 25, 2022 We were routinely defeating them and that created complacency in the CT2017 final. As In the recent T20 WC, our team became old and passenger filled. We deserved to lose, and Pakistan played fearlessly. Now our team has been on the upswing and should do well despite the pre match hype, whose effect should wear off within the first few overs. SRT100 and f20143g70 2
Lone Wolf Posted August 25, 2022 Posted August 25, 2022 2011 WC Semi was the only time I felt it really got out of hand. Everything else feels too normal now. People don't have so much time to worry about rivalry now. Basically all social media/heck only Twitter hypes these games. Pressure is part & parcel of the game. These guys get under pressure in KO games vs other teams or in a low scoring Test match away like vs SA... Whole country vs us comedy. SRT100 1

sage Posted August 25, 2022 Posted August 25, 2022 It is the players responsibility to handle the pressure. None of them have even 10% of the pressure that was on Sachin's shoulders before that 2003 match. Media were talking about it for a year before hte match every man he encountered from taxi driver to security were weighing in and giving him advice. He couldn't sleep for the nights before but still managed to perform on the day and focus
singhvivek141 Posted August 25, 2022 Posted August 25, 2022 (edited) Players on the ground should have the mental strength to understand what works for them. Some players perform better when they're fired up, while some performs better when flowing under the radar. From our side, it's mostly our media who fuels this rivalry for TRP...while at Pakistan's end, well even their so called "greats" hype this rivalry to keep their shops running (e.g. Bekar Younus). Sean Bradley Posted August 25, 2022 Posted August 25, 2022 I don't see any pressure, what are we missing? There are nerves, but pressure is probably playing Shaheen Afridi's opening spell more than anything else, on a larger scale, our players are well trained for Media Buzz and Fans expectations. Indian fans take it as given that India are going to win against Pakistan 8 out of 10 times, and if we, dont then it's an upset, provided when Shaheen, Babar, Fakhar, & Rizwan have a combined good game together against India, India are going to win on most occasions.
putrevus Posted August 25, 2022 Posted August 25, 2022 (edited) Pakistan winning odd match here and there does not make this a rivarly. India will win 90 out 100 matches in all formats. Edited August 25, 2022 by putrevus
