Why was Umran Malik discarded so early but Harshal Patel is still getting selected?

Harshal has played over 20 T20s for India and has a career economy rate of over 9! How is he still getting selected for the national team? Literally nobody in the opposition is fooled by his slower deliveries anymore, that novelty factor is long gone!

Anyone with even an ounce of cricket knowledge will know that Umran Malik has a way way higher ceiling than Harshal as a bowler. Yet our retarded selectors dropped him completely just after 2-3 games!

If Umran's economy was the issue, then on what basis is Harshal still getting backed when his career economy rate is close to 10! :wall:

Harshal has had 2 or 3 good IPL seasons. Umran naya ladka hain. He can play in A or domestics and be considered for 2023/4 WC. They tried about 11/12 bowlers from IPL till now. Sabko chanis milenga

I am using the answers given in this forum just before the Asia Cup. Not my words.

"Harshal is an all phase bowler, can bowl in pp, middle overs and death. Umran is only a mid phase bowler, can't bowl in pp and a strict no in death, even in that phase his economy is on a higher end in the IPL.
India don't need one phase bowler, who is not reliable even in that phase "

Makes sense. Add to that..Also look at ER in death of great phaaast bowlers like Rabada or Cummins or falana dhimka. Death is like hamam, sab nange hain.

Are there any stats like how much he is contributing towards losing the match..

match winning spells toh ghanta nhi krta..we know that..

Batting bhi not reliable at all..toh Siraj looks a better choice as 3rd pacer in current form if Shami and ArshdeeP will bowl at death..

not sure what value does Harshal Patel is adding to the team..

Umran Malik got into limelight due to consistent speeds over 152 every over. The moment he was given a game against Ireland, his speed dropped. Was he told to not go all out and concentrate on line and length? Anyways it doesn't matter. He has to perform now in what ever chances he is getting to get back in the mix.

Because Harshal in 2 phase bowler and Umran is no-phase bowler as of now.

Irish speed guns are known to be slow..  They don't even use them there.

He did bowl 151kph still.

In England he bowled 147-148kph consistently in TB.  91mph to be exact.

Probably would have bowled 150+ easily in ACC Asia Cup speed guns.

What is this supposed to mean

It means Harshal PP, middle aur death mein pitega. Umran PP aur death mein aur zyada pitega. Middle mein sirf bowl sakta hai with some success. Even in SMAT he comes in the middle and bowls 4 overs with some control.

Harshal did well in the first 15 or 20 games which were played in subcontinent and UAE. By the time he lost the radar, we got close to the World tournament and selectors felt that now they will back Harshal as we are getting into the start of the tournament.

Basically, their mind was to go with Bhuvi and Bumrah as two experienced lead bowlers and third pacer would be based on performances and it was down to four men.

Arshdeep, Harshal, Avesh and Umran got the chances but then started the elimination process and Umran was the first one to get eliminated. They backed Avesh during the time Harshal was injured and he remained inconsistent. Then finally eliminated him and it come down to Arshdeep/Harshal.

Also, Harshal's batting ability earned him more brownie points.

And now all those pretenders are shifting band wagon. At one point this was their dream bowling lineup..

Bhuvi---All phase

Avesh--Hit the deck and middle over enforcer

Harshal- death over expert

They also said pace is overrated line and length are important.

But now just like TM and selectors they don't have legs to stand and shifting goal posts.
