The KL Rahul approach - the worst batting approach in T20 history

He bats throughout the inning.

He wants to anchor the inning like Kohli.

He likes to take it deep in a MS Dhoni style.

In the process, he will score his usual 60-70 run type inning at 120 SR and expect others to come, whack and get out.

He will selfishly bat trying to run behind the orange cap.

But but but

he chokes after taking it deep, making himself look foolish. This is the usual KL style of batting.

He is an opener but a bad one.

He also wants to become a finisher but he is again a bad one in that.

If Gautam Gambhir and LSG team management have guts, they must call out this selfish batting of KL and drop him for atleast a couple of match for this terrible batting approach in T20 cricket.

Sir even you demanded him at no. 5 in odi team. However glad that you came to senses as this guy is infected with comorbidity of selfishness and mental midgetry.

I understand that it is fashionable to write against KL. He has a history of playing slow knocks where he begins slowly and then fails to accelerate sufficiently and/or close the game ( In IPL, one important example is the game against RCB in last year's eliminator - Link). On top of that, he shamelessly plays maidens in PP to set himself. Every time he plays slow or is perceived to be slow, it builds up his reputation to automatically triggers a response. At times, it does not even matter how the pitch played to evaluate an inning.

In the game at Lucknow v GT, the pitch was sluggish. In both innings, batters found it relatively easy to score in PP and generally in the 1st 10 overs. As the ball became softer and the pace was taken off the ball, it became difficult to score unless a batsman was set and received bad balls.

If Lucknow was chasing 170-190 and KL played such an inning, it would have been criminal. Here he couldn't figure out how to get the ball away once it became soft and with the other team bowling in the right areas and at the right pace. Krunal lost his wicket trying to force the pace and Pooran found it difficult to get going as without much pace it is even difficult to work the ball in the gaps for 1s or 2s. The ball either has to be short or full to make full use of it. KL made 68 off 61 balls, while the rest of the lineup, including extras, made 60 off 59. Therefore, in this case, I would be willing to give KL the benefit of doubt.

It was a case of "those who dig a pit for others eventually fall into it". LSG has a competitive team therefore its TM should not look to bank on such pitches but seek to prepare sporting ones where its players can compete better.
