rollingstoned Posted January 12 Posted January 12 (edited) Bitter Jasprit Bumrah Champions Trophy Blow To India, Report Says India Pacer To Miss... Jasprit Bumrah's participation in the forthcoming ICC Champions Trophy has suffered a big blow. NDTV Sports Desk Updated: January 12, 2025 05:33 pm IST Read Time: 2 min Jasprit Bumrah unlikely to be fit in time for Champions Trophy start The cost of 'overusing' Jasprit Bumrah in the search of wickets on the Border-Gavaskar Trophy seems to have hurt India's chances of winning the Champions Trophy. The pacer had to pull out during the 5th and final Test against Australia in Sydney over 'back spasms' but his injury has turned out to be much worse than first anticipated. It has been reported that Bumrah has swelling on his back and is unlikely to be fit in time for the start of the Champions Trophy next month. The marquee pacer, who picked 32 wickets against Australia in the 5-match series, has been to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru where his recovery will be monitored, as per Indian Express. The situation has even prompted the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to ask the International Cricket Council (ICC) to grant an extension over the squad announcement, though the deadline is today (January 12). The BCCI selection committee isn't sure whether to name Bumrah in the 15-man roster or take him to UAE as one of the reserves since he is expected to be fit before the Champions Trophy knockouts begin. "He (Bumrah) will be going to NCA for his rehabilitation. The initial report says he doesn't have a fracture but has swelling on his back. So the NCA will monitor his recovery and he will be there for three weeks. But even after that, he will have to play a match or two, even if they are practice games organised to check his match fitness," the report quoted a source as saying. Team India's last group match in the Champions Trophy is on March 02. The semi-finals will be held on March 04 and 05 while the final is scheduled to be held on March 09. The board could gamble on Bumrah's name and take him to UAE with the hopes of getting him fully fit before the semi-finals. The report has also claimed that Bumrah is expected to regain match fitness before the semi-finals begin. Edited January 12 by rollingstoned

Majestic Posted January 12 Posted January 12 If it is being said so early then he will likely miss the Champions Trophy. In an ideal scenario, he should skip IPL too and try to be ready for England tour. 4 tests in England and then 2 at home vs SA should be focus. 6 tests this year, maybe one bilateral series in the second half and no IPL. Next year, he will have only 4 tests(2 vs SL away and 2 vs NZ away), IPL and a WT20. Just skip the Champions Trophy and IPL this year and save your best for the rest over next two years without much of pressure put on the body. express bowling 1
R!TTER Posted January 12 Posted January 12 (edited) I don't know who made that headline, but the * clearly lacks basics in English; it sounds like Bumrah's bitter Edited January 12 by R!TTER Stan AF, raki05, BacktoCricaddict and 5 others 4 1 3

Jassi bhai doesn't need to waste his playing days on this DeepShit should suffice. Maybe even Shami bhai, but his hair transplant looks off should give him some time to fix that First class 1

bowl_out Posted January 12 Posted January 12 Let him rest through IPL and come back for the England Tests
goose Posted January 12 Posted January 12 given the financial rewards on offer in IPL it makes sense financially as well as medically to avoid anything that might curtain his career. this is bound to make players err on the side of caution more so than they once did

His absence from Delhi's Ranji Trophy second-leg fixture against Saurashtra says everything there is to know about his status." He is still injured as always. Has hardly managed to get on the park yet gets loads of people pushing him based only on 3-4 IPL overs a while ago.
Nikhil_cric Posted January 12 Posted January 12 Long said that BCCI can't keep going back to the Shami/Bumrah well all the time. Bench strength is totally non existent. Good time to invest in a few young seamers and stick with them for a while singhvivek141 and tapandrun 2

Did NCA did his body type analysis before recommending change in action? An abdominal tear has turned into a back injury..despite bowling at a lower pace. rollingstoned and express bowling 1 1

Kuldeep Sen, Himanshu Chauha, Lokesh Raj, Prithviraj Yarra none of them are playing. Mayank, Umrah,Kartik injured. Purnank Tyagi played 2 games and picked up a 5fer, yet was dropped. Same old Mukesh, Avesh, Unadkut, Khaleel, Deepak Chahar, Sandeep Sharma type bowlers playing game after game and trundling at 125 kph. raki05, Lord and express bowling 1 2
Aiden Posted January 12 Posted January 12 How convenient. On dead Pakistani pitches decided to skip the tournament. Bowlers these days are such sissies. And fans have the audacity to compare these unfit generation bowlers to legends of previous generations like Waqar & Marshal who played series after series without breaking down.
