What is Ishant Sharma's role in the team?

5 wickets total in his last 5 Tests. Overall bowling average of 37 even after playing 70 Tests. Can't bat. Not a great fielder.

 

What exactly is he doing in the team?

He is ready to jump from sky scrapper for his captain,first Dhoni & now Kohli.

He has not improved even after playing 70 tests,he is still playing like a rookie bowler

Apart from match winning performances here and there, his wicket taking ability is not much than a decent part timer. 2 wickets per match. That's all he can manage most of the time which is not the role of your most experienced front line bowler. He has picked 20% of his wickets in 7 innings and remaining 80% in 116 innings.

He does have the ability to bowl long pressure spells to unsettle well set batsmen. Zaheer Khan was different bowler after playing a county season, Ishant must try the same.

They were showing the bowling graph. He was bowling everything around 2 feet wide off off stump and shortish length. I just cant understand why cant he bowl with his body 1 feet closer to stump and just land the ball in the line of off stump.

Whats the use of such a good height and exp of 70 test. WI were bowling same lines to make our batsman not score runs but why was he bowling same lines.

Ishant Sharma is quite possibly the worst player to play 70 test matches in the history of the game and at this rate he will play 100 tests soon. IMO he is just not good enough and once in a bluemoon performances should not keep him in the side. The guy lacks a cricketing brain and that's his main problem. Otherwise he had all the ingredients to be a very good bowler. He does not even get injured too often which is rare for Indian quicks. Unfortunately that is one problem which is almost impossible to solve.

Ishant just does has a brian. He changed his action based on Zaheer action then dhoni asked to bowl bouncers in champions trophy he did. Now may be after watching videos of windies bowling he is bowling 2 ft outside off. @maniac

70 test matches and 205 wickets at S/R of 67.5 is unacceptable especially when most of those wickets are against the Windies and he has played so many overseas tests.

The reason he doesn't get injured is because he tries to preserve himself while bowling. When he gave his true 100% by bowling bouncers at Lords, he got injured. So now he has learnt to bowl within himself. And why does he even need to bowl at 100% when even bowling at 50% keeps him in the team.
