Dhoni should play at 4 from now on in ODIs and need to groom someone else for 5 and 6. Dhoni needs leave ODI captaincy too because as a captain he is trying to take too much responsibility of finishing at 6 which is not his strength anymore. He can come at 4 and still finish games as he will get more time to settle down. Still 3 years and we can certainly groom some players for 5-6 likes of Deepak Hooda, Nitish Rana, Krunal Pandya, Gurkeerat, etc. MCcricket 1 Link to comment
putrevus
It is not some job where in he will okay just because he has done for so many years, I do not care who it is unless they practice in real game situation they will not be match ready. The only saving grace for him he recently played an ODI series against NZ. Playing in Indian team is not any one player's jagir they have to earn that right every match they play. Zero_Unit
Lot of you are missing OP's point. The issue here is "MATCH FITNESS" and not his "FITNESS". Two different thing all together. We all know that Dhoni is one of the most in-shape players in our team (probably right behind Virat) but match fitness is a completely different thing. Link to comment

But then there's always the question of workload management. Bottomline - you either give Dhoni the benefit of trust, based on credibility earned over the course of his career - that he will recognize what he needs to do, and do it. Or you don't. Thats the problem in india ,Diff rule for seniors and youngsters.Rahul and co had to play a domestic cricket to prove fitness where as senior player gets it easy. This was the problem which plagued indian cricket for long.Speaking of trust and credibilty its hard to trust a person who lied to sc to save meyappan. WC2011INDIA
It will be really bad if the ODIs turn out to be a nightmare or we barely win it after a dominating 4-0 win in tests. But with Kohli and KL rahul in the squad and possibly Nair getting a shot, I have faith. Hoping Pandey delivers big in all the games because a repeat of NZ series performances or doing just barely better will put his spot under scanner. Ideally, he should be batting at #4 and not Dhoni because Pandey can play the big innings and even finish the game like in that final odi match in Australia. Now I think he needs to keep wickets for 3 balls in an over and next 3 balls someone else will keep. And while batting he should play only as a runner so he keeps his fitness while others get a chance to shine. sscomp32, sandeep and Rasgulla 3 Link to comment
