Popular Post vvvslaxman Posted June 18, 2017 Popular Post Posted June 18, 2017 (edited) Start with selection. They went with 3 solid strike bowlers. India went with just 1. Later on Bumara's line to Fakhar. They treated him like some Gordon Greenidge, Des Haynes. Straight away focus was more on tucking him down rather than bowling offside channel. It was a criminal line and length. One ball he bowled he found the edge. It all summed up the thinking of Indian bowling strategy. They were more focussed on containing Pakistanis rather than getting out. Aamir on the other hand was on the money from the get go. No room at the same time no leg stump freebies. They let the game drift and drift. Predictably Ashwin and Jadeja completely buried our hopes of getting them out below 250. They could neither contain nor take wickets. Toothless bowling. Awful field settings. It was apparent pretty quickly Ashwin couldn't dismiss chris martin on that wicket. But Kohli was determined on finishing his quotat which was another blunder. Later on out of desperation he brought on Jadhav which nobody has issues with. But when he had 2 bowlers to finish the remaining overs, he took a chance with Jadhav once more. Every time India had semblance of momentum we were tactically found wanting and handed it right back to them with one stupid move or the other. On that score Kohli has to learn a lot from someone like Gambhir. Kohli is hot-headed. Tactically he is way behind. Edited June 18, 2017 by vvvslaxman tweaker, Sidhoni, Sandeep99 and 11 others 14
Adi_91 Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 Under pressure in a ODI, when the opponent batsmen are attacking, Kohli looks a bit clueless. It's been seen in 2 games in a row. adi B, bleaf27, WC2011INDIA and 2 others 5
PBN Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 if india had been 48/0 after 10 we would have had a game. losing 3 inside 10 was always going to be difficult. the top 3 failed in the finals of all the matches. vvvslaxman, WC2011INDIA, tweaker and 3 others 6
velu Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 kohli is a dumbass captain .. but i am not blaming dhoni for going with ashwin instead of shami/yadav , whoever did it should be shot point blank.. padosis ka strategy is very simple vs our spinners .. just hit them out vijay50, Temujin Khaghan, vvvslaxman and 1 other 4
zen Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 (edited) There are some norms that needs to be adhered to such as: Play with 3 frontline pace bowlers unless the pitch supports spinners Try to bat first in KO games (though after looking at how SFs went, I too thought that this tourney was about batting 2nd) unless conditions demand batting 2nd Don't bowl spinners in the death bowlers (unless ofc the pitch is such or someone is having an exceptional day with the ball) ODIs are longer format than T20s, so need to give 2-3 overs to the yourself to settle down no matter how high the RRR is. There is no compulsion to go after the bowling from ball one unless the ball demands to be hit Let's not forget that we were thrashed by SL too. Only got in to the KOs with wins over SA, which tends to choke in such games, and BD. We should have gone with a clean slate for the final. If one of the stronger teams from Grp A had qualified, Ind's run may have ended in the SFs Edited June 18, 2017 by zen express bowling, vvvslaxman, velu and 1 other 4
express bowling Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 (edited) We were very defensive in our choice of bowlers as well as the line and length the bowlers were instructed to bowl. These are the primary reasons for Pakistan notching up such a huge score. The only way to contain runs these days is to take wickets. Bowling the middle and leg and middle line by our opening pacers instead of channel deliveries and surprise bouncers...and spinners trying to bowl only darters and not going for any spin or occasional flight...must have been a strategy by thd team management. Well, it was a bad one and reflects a very defensive mindset for the match. Edited June 18, 2017 by express bowling Adi_91, Ankit_sharma03, vvvslaxman and 1 other 4
Autonomous Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 Credit goes to bowling coach and Mickey Arthur. But I think Fahim should have played in the final. Captaincy was good as well the way he used Hasan, Shadab and Amir. Asim 1
The Outsider Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 Not much was wrong with the Indian team. I guess they would have taken 300 to chase instead of the 340, but you can never account for the masterful spell from Amir. It was surreal on that flat pitch. veer 1
Iconoclast Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 Indian bowling embodied IPL containment tactics. Pakistani bowling was 90's style take wickets and bowl them out. Being excluded from that tournament lead us to winning this one. mishra, NareshK and Pak_cric 2 1

CG Posted June 19, 2017 Posted June 19, 2017 Its one game where everything we did came out wrong.I mean Pakistani batsman got so many edges falling safe during first few overs and we lost 3 in first few overs.Tactically we had headache of plenty Ashwin is a big player and if u heard his interview after Sa he made it clear that he felt that he was dropped. We underestimated Pak batting .
veer Posted June 19, 2017 Posted June 19, 2017 (edited) Pakistan was destined to win... There is no ifs and buts about it. On any other day, zaman wud be out on 4 (not on no ball)... One or two players cud have been run out with direct hit from fielder.. we be chasing much better.. etc Edited June 19, 2017 by veer adi B, CG and cricketfan28 3

adi B Posted June 19, 2017 Posted June 19, 2017 Indian team is heavily dependent on the top 3,we need at least two of them score big in each game and play at least 20 overs in the start so that the middle order aint exposed to the new ball velu 1

Laaloo Posted June 19, 2017 Posted June 19, 2017 Can't lose with shami on the bench. If you deem him unfit then you have to select Yadav considering that Ashwin dropped a catch in the last match and toothless bowling. velu, Lord, express bowling and 1 other 4
