Because I don’t have the Indian Premier League contract which other players have to get into limelight, playing domestic cricket was the only way I could get into the Indian team. That said, I knew I needed to consistent,” Vihari said in an interview. “Eight years is a long time. There’s a lot of competition (in domestic circuit). There are a lot of good players. So to perform in domestic circuit and get selected for India A and India is big. I’m happy with my progress so far,” he said. He also acknowledged Rahul Dravid’s contribution to his improvement. “He told me to stick to my natural game, not alter the technique much. Honestly, that put me in a great mental space and luckily, I performed.” “It’s disheartening if you perform and don’t get selected. But I knew my time will come. The best part is that I know my game very well. I try to visualise the game which keeps me a step ahead. Once I’m set, I try to dominate the opposition,” he said.
Popular Post Forever Indian Posted August 24, 2018 Popular Post Posted August 24, 2018 Vihari has the highest average for current First class cricketers in the world of around 60, even ahead of Steve Smith who is at no.2. I know stats are not everything but someone having the best first class stats in the world certainly deserves a fair chance in Indian team. Hopefully he makes the cut at international level Lannister, raki05, Samcric and 7 others 10

He averaged 29.8 in 2 Unofficial tests in England ... where Pant and Shaw averaged 63 and 62.5. Switchblade and nevada 2
Laaloo Posted August 24, 2018 Posted August 24, 2018 This is the type of players who we've been waiting for years. Screw IPL. It doesn't help us in tests or Odis or heck even t20s. saik, raki05, speedheat and 7 others 9 1
velu Posted August 24, 2018 Posted August 24, 2018 i wonder how @maniac ( aka @Global.Baba aka @sage ) garu missed him .. he even hyped Ravi teja speedheat, Switchblade, Vilander and 2 others 5

Mosher Posted August 24, 2018 Posted August 24, 2018 Why should IPL performance matter for selection in the test squad or for getting into limelight? Sad state of affairs. saik, Sgattick10, Switchblade and 4 others 1 6

Let's see, averages don't mean much across two games, Pant had a couple of not outs, and Shaw's average is primarily bcos of one innings of 188 but he also got two ducks. Vihari fought it out on a tough Day 1 track when Shaw and Mayank got golden ducks and also along with Pant helped chase 320 but unluckily got runout for 68. We can only judge them from how they play in tests and that too over a full series, not one off games. Lannister and sensible-indian 1 1

Although I quoted the averages ( which, as you rightly pointed out, does not carry much meaning with a small sample size ) ... the issue I noticed but did not have the time to post then was A-tour to England Pant ... 3 fifty+ scores in 4 innings Shaw ... 2 fifty+ scores in 4 innings including a big century of 188 Vihari ... 1 fifty+ score in 4 innings I hope this does not point to any significant weakness in Vihari's off-stump game and against the moving ball. It could well be some other issue like temporarily not being in the best of forms. Let's see. I want Vihari to do well because he comes across as a proper test quality batsman with hunger for runs. chewy Posted August 25, 2018 Posted August 25, 2018 Another player where changing Ranji states does wonders for him

Nikhil_cric Posted August 25, 2018 Posted August 25, 2018 IPL performances mean zilch when it comes to test cricket. Or even Odi cricket in my opinion but that's debatable. But let's not get carried away by his domestic average . I believe the likes of rahane and Sharma averaged around 60 as well. Ranji doesn't develop complete players and he hasn't performed well on the A tour to England.

Picking top 4 batters and opening bowlers, based on T20 performances, is the biggest falacy IMHO. Nikhil_cric 1
vishalvirsingh Posted August 25, 2018 Posted August 25, 2018 i saw him hitting umesh yadav and one more good pacer in a matchand saw some of his batting , he was attacking ... i am 100 % confident that if he gets a chance ahead of say RAHANE as he is a middle order bat, he will score heavily and grab his chance with both hands. cant say the same about Prithvi at this age...

I am from Hyderabad and i am following this guy from last 5 years...(although he has moved from Hyderabad to Andhra in the recent past) His mindset is more on the Pujara mold. (not his technique but just the mindset). "You are what your mind is" I believe, your statement is based on his performance in the recent past.....the attitude you have seen in the recent past is so unlike him....If this is just rubbed on attitude and temporary thing, his longevity in intl arena will be questionable....If he has truly transformed, i will be happiest person.....because, he always had the technique to succeed at the highest level but his inferiority complex was the issue... You see the same inferiority issues with other hyderabadi bowler Siraj....but he is slowly coming out of the issue and feeling not out-of place
