Why not Raina ?

What I can clearly see a problem with Indian batting is not merely about talent but about mental strength ? 

 

I have probably been the the biggest critic of Raina. He is suspect against shot bowling. But over the last 3-4 series, I have seen Indian batting not fairing well against any kind of bowling. They just look mentally suspect midgets except Kohli. 

 

With India most likely playing only 5 specialist batsman, I wouldn’t mind Raina. A fighter. A hitter. And mentally tough guy. He comes from generation of ODI batsmen such as Yuvraj and Dhoni that knew how to close matches. 

 

Certainly between a rayadu and Raina, Raina will get my vote. I know we can get a 30 off 20 from him at least.

Raina has been in such a bad shape mentally that he might even duck against fast wrist spinners like Rashid Khan or Shadab.. imagine what could happen when he has to face Starc, rabada, Ferguson, Shaheen Afridi etc.

You already have Pandya and Dhoni who are expected to play the 25 off 20 ball innings.. Irrespective of what Dhoni or his fans claim, that's the best he can offer with the bat now..

You don't want another player in the XI to play the same role..

 

The top 5 should be - Rohit, Dhawan, Kohli, Rahul, Jadhav who should all look to play long innings.
