Hell Raiser Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 Just now, sandeep said: Shami is not as dependable as Bhuvi. Especially at the death, in a highscoring game in flat conditions. He's a gamble. And especially against a team that is unruffled by bit of extra pace and bounce. Yes, a Shami bowling in top rhythm, is threatening to any and all batsmen - but he's inconsistent. Arguably Bhuvi complements Bumrah better at the other end, while Shami is stylistically a similar bowler to Bumrah. As a captain, you want variety in your bowlers, all other things being equal. 'sameness' in a new ball pair can be costly. Now I'm not saying Shami's not a quality bowler. He is. But Bhuvi, after increasing his pace, is a really valuable bowler in white ball cricket. I know his statistical record doesn't quite reflect that, but I suggest that you take a closer look at his bowling - and make a dispassionate effort to filter out your confirmation bias. Look at his bowling today. He has zero wickets to show for it, but he bowled quite well. On another day, he could have taken a couple of wickets bowling worse. I agree that Bhuvi is better bowler at death than Shami. But we need a wicket taker, not an economical bowler. I would rather have a bowler who can get me wickets rather than who can go for bit less runs in the latter part of the game. If you can take wickets consistently you are bound to put a break on scoring rate of good batting teams and thats what Shami does. I am not bias, I like Bhuvi the bowler but he has not done justice to his skill. After playing 100 odd games he shouldn't be averaging 35 odd with the ball. He has gotten a consistent run in the ODI format and should have been the 2nd name on the sheet without any question as far as fast bowlers are concerned but sadly he has failed to that. If India wants to play three seamers like they should have done on this pitch, Bhuvi is good but Shami over Bhuvi anyday if India plays with just 2 pacers. Mosher and express bowling 2
Clarke Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 Hopefully Shami gets his chances and the better bowler plays in the bigger games. I would back Shami to deliver a better performance than Bhuvi. express bowling 1

Currently not even that, bhuvi has been struggling in death to post his back issues. Yorkers need a lot of effort from back and ever since his back injury he has struggled in death to. He has been punished in death in IPL which is 4 over....imagine the load on back when u have to bowl 10 overs Hell Raiser and express bowling 2
ungboysj Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 Only because neither of bumrah chahal kuldeep shami can bat. So bhuvi gets the nod Shami will play only if jade ja plays
Clarke Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 Bhuvi's batting can't be a factor, he doesnt contribute that frequently.
Khota Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 This is a long world cup. Bumrah needs to be rested. I agree Shami deserves a chance but when India starts playing Asian countries they will need him.
Lannister Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 Atleast play your strong team against strong teams. Leaving out Shami was a moronic move. Expected this fully from Rat. Switchblade 1

By this argument, you can claim Umesh Yadav is a bigger "wicket taker" than Bhuvi in ODIs. Again, its about variety and balance in your bowling attack, and having more than one way to attack the batsmen. A fully fit and in rhythm Bhuvi makes a better pair with Bumrah, than Shami - that's my argument. If the pace and bounce from Boom doesn't get you, the movement from Bhuvi can. And against teams that are more hesitant against pace instead of spin, we can go with all 3. Can't wait to see the trio bully the greenbros.
zen Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 Shami over Bhuvi any day. Bhuvi is closer to 4th-5th bowlers like Pandya than Shami, who goes for wkts

Even his one spell can change the game upside down and completly take the game away from India. Yes movement from bhuvi can get you but can he do it consistently or has done consistently? Variety is the way to go in case of two equally good bowlers. But thats not the case here. There is no point in having variety just for the sake of it. Absolutly can't wait to see our three pacers destroy there batting line up. Bhuvi did bowl brilliantly against them in Asia cup and took wickets upfront.
The Dark Horse Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 It was either Jadeja or Bhuvi.. that's where Shami missed out.

Better to have more spinners, and go with the pacer that can move it both ways. If it was Pakistan/SL/Bang etc, I wouldn't be surprised to see Shami in the team as a 3rd pacer, or even 2nd. Of course logic doesn't matter for pimply kids who care more about speed-guns than actual results. Kabhi kabhi I feel fayda nagi hai samjhane ka. They look at stats always. Anyways, its not like BK is bowling 75miles every ball, he got decent pace too. But its all about movement. They want to make sure that a bowler is able to complement Bumrah better and partner him better. Shami has been brilliant through out last one year but its all about the team right now and what combination is best, and going with Bhuvi isn't a mistake on such track. sandeep and beetle 2

I completely disagree, Bhuvi's figures are looking good for one reason SA were under pressure due to wickets taken by other bowlers. If there was wicket taking bowler instead of Bhuvi, score would not have reached 200. This is world cup for wicket takers not so called containers like Bhuvi.Bhuvi will never threaten anyone with his pace .Everyone wanted Bhuvi to get his pace up for his swing to become more effective. Unless Bhuvi can swing the ball upfront, him being in the squad is a mistake. Hell Raiser 1

If its not in England, then where else would play bowlers like him? Fast bowlers are important, but you have to remember guys like Mark Wood and all are also giving away runs easily with pace. Shami again has been brilliant and will play games eventually, but that said Bhuvi has a role to play in this cup and that is not just to contain, but to take wickets and if he is not able to get in this first game, doesn't mean he doesn't deserve to be in the team. Horses for courses applies here. beetle 1

There is place for Bhuvi as a third seamer not as a second seamer.Bhuvi will have to play on green tops like SL played against NZ at expense of one spinner. He cannot be second seamer, Pandya is already weakening the bowling attack by being third seamer on wickets like these. Horses for courses does not apply here. See how good bowlers like Rabada and Bumrah are bowling with new ball on this wicket and compare it with Bhuvi. Mosher 1
kubrickian Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 (edited) Shami over BK is a no brainer. Unless the former is injured. Bhuvi doesnt get much swing anymore. He has changed his bowling style. He is more or less a medium pacer who relies on hitting on the deck and bowling tight lines. He will never cause any major damage to the opposition. Shami is a genuine attacking wicket taking option in ODIs. Edited June 5, 2019 by kubrickian
