Im not a fan of Manjrekar but in his defence Lets be clear, he said

"I am not a big fan of bits and pieces players which Jadeja is at this point of his career in 50-over cricket. In Test matches, he is a pure bowler. But in 50-over cricket, I would rather have a batsman and a spinner," Manjrekar was quoted as saying by IANS.

Crucial difference between just calling him a bits and pieces player, period. And actually there are alot of us on this forum who would agree- i.e. would you trust Jadeja as one of 4 front line bowlers in ODIs? Instead of one of KulCha? I wouldnt even with kulChas struggles. He is predictable on flat wickets, does not beat batsmen with flight and dip. And he may probably be a no 7 bat, but I am not convinced that he can be that either, is his balls striking ability good enough?. There was a reason he and Ashwin were dropped and we turned to wrst spin, we were all very surprised at his come back. All that being said, I would consider him in the starting XI as one of 5 bowlers (incl all 3 pacemen and Kuldeep) with Hardik the 6th...

I agree with what you wrote, but Manju is doing Jaddu a big disservice in calling him a "pure bowler" in Tests. Jaddu has played 41 tests so far in cricket. Since Jan 2016, he has played 25 tests. In these 25 tests, he has a batting avg of 42.16! And he has taken 124 wkts at an avg of 23.64. In other words, he takes 5 wkts per match and has a batting avg of 40+. Yes, most of the tests came in Ind, but this is a highly remarkable record nonetheless. this streak deserves to be called at ATG streak.

In the 25 tests, he has played 19 at home and 6 away. has a batting avg of 42.1 and bowling avg of 21.8 in home tests. in away matches, he has a batting avg of 42.3 and a bowling avg of 29.3. In other words, his bowling in away tests has dipped somewhat (although still quite good), but his batting has been nearly as good.

For me, to define , a bits and pieces player has no technique. He doesn’t qualify as allrounder as he is neither gun bowler nor gun bat. He can score some runs like Rhodes, save some runs like Rhodes and bowl few overs but never expected to bowl 10 ovr quota.

Jaddu is expected to bowl his full quota in odis.

There's nothing wrong with "bits and pieces" players if they make their team stronger (relatively).

A lot depends on a team's resources.

I originally supported Manjrekar because he didn’t say anything different from what most of us have been saying for years about Jadeja especially in the LOI format.

In fact felt bad he was getting attacked.

instead of moving on and manning up  by saying something like “Jadeja has turned it around” or “improved and proved him wrong” , he is acting like a moron and stretching this too thin.

Instead of criticizing Kohli's batting/captaincy Sanju takes aim at a soft target in Jaddu, one of the main reasons why we were in the WTC F in the first place.

Does the clown know how to read stats/numbers? Questioning the #1 ranked AR's batting, apparently 50 avg in the WTC cycle isn't good enough.

Don't think so man. At least not explicitly, mostly general statements like batting must improve.

It will always be the easy targets- jadeja, pandya and even bowlers like ashwin but in India questions hardly will be raised on rahane, pujara (whose inconsistency overseas has been the biggest issue) even when Rohit, dhawan continously failed in test overseas someone like gavaskar said dhawan was wrongly dropped. Ganguly famously flipped on his own statement when 1st he questioned rohit overseas credentials and then said he was unfairly dropped after an year .
