A country satisfied with mediocrity

India, a country with population in billions with arguably biggest Cricket fanbase (crazy or casual). BCCI richest board minting loads of money. Decent infrastructure and reach within the country in this decade.

Cricketers are like treated like Gods and paid in millions. Taking into view the above, it's amazing to see people satisfied with India reaching semi finals. Ridiculous.

Why are we satisfied with mediocrity?

That’s the mindset and culture to be honest don’t be surprised if 2011 WC win would be repeated as a consolation.

This forum is on rant mode even when we win. :phehe: News media, social media is full of how we played good cricket and it's disheartening to lose but it's just a game. While I am happy that Indian fans are maturing rather than burning Cricketers houses, I also fear Cricketers are taking this for granted. They are not paid in millions to lose like losers in knockouts. After CT finals they should have had some shame and determined to win this World Cup not repeating the same mistakes.

This is precisely the problem. Kohli and Dhoni are treated like Gods by the selectors and look where we ended up.

This is the case everywhere. Mediocrity is abundant in all aspects in this country. You perform just on par, you become complacent and satisfied. And the Indians on social media are praising saying win or lose we will continue to support Kohli and his team etc. Not much criticism on Instagram .

And you think these opinions matter?? Not a leaf will turn in BCCI. We will see the same old same old repeat all over again.

The thing is IPL has changed everything. It is the biggest curse happened to Indian cricket. Because of IPL indian public mellowed down a lot as they started worshiping foreign players too. So even if India plays badly, they do not react strongly. There are no longer crazy passionate fans now in india. Sometimes you do need to throw bottles and burn effigies otherwise these over-paid players do not bother to perform as they are getting the money.

Indians always look for a hero in every field.

In politics a leader who can magically solve all the problems.

In sports a player who can win all the matches single handedly.

Then he becomes a demigod who can do no wrong.

No concept of team work and collective responsibility.

of course not satisfied but the bulk of armchair fans are what they are, braindead in terms of cricket on display, 4s, 6s, 100s, wkts, that's all the want, wallow in grief after losing, but come next match cheer 'Dhoni, Dhoni, Dhoni!!'

Most them think Bumrah is World's fastest bowler, most of them think Kohli is 10x Williamson, most them think Pandya can smash 100m sixes at will, most couldn't be able to tell difference between swing and cross seam bowling

On the pitiful state of cricket in India that after so much resources and spread of the game:

1. Where is India's 150 kph bowler?

Aus has Starc, NZ has Lockie, Eng has Archer and Wood, SA has Rabada, Pak has 35 year old Wahab,

As brilliant as Bumrah has been, that 150 kph bowler makes a huge difference cleaning up lower order/tailender wickets

2. After over 10 IPL seasons, India haven't found half decent batsmen able to power the ball to sixes, since Yuvraj and younger Dhoni, likes of Pandya and Pant are just pretenders

3. Lack of game awareness is probably behind only to likes WI and Pak.

NZ and Aus always seems to judge and play to the conditions

Like in most areas of field in India, quality, focus, commitment and accountability will ensure India never really dominates the game of cricket.

People congratulating the team are mostly doing it as part of coping this upset loss. None of them would have said we achieved enough, until today. And the Indian team does get affected by losses and do make losses. After 2007, it changed the coach, kicked out some non performers and changed the captain as we clearly underperformed. In 2015, Australia were a better side and were favorites. After the 2017 champions trophy, the coach, and the spin combo was changed. Bowlers got more disciplined with bowling no balls, and Yuvraj was dropped. After today, I’m sure we will see a different middle order soon with dhoni, Karthik, Jadhav gone and pant, Gill, mayank, pandya, taking more responsibility.

And it’s the extreme reactions that r very typical of countries that r not fully developed. The burning of the effigies, stoning players houses, conducting mass prayers for the teams win, etc in my opinion r as bad as treating every celebrity like a god and pouring milk over idols statues. India has gotten better at this which is a great thing and shows the country’s progress.

Calm down its just a game. India actually overachieved if you keep in mind the limitations of the batsmen. They were fortunate to get some nice slow tracks that made it feel just like home. Indian batsmen, even today, are vulnerable when facing a decent pace attack on a pitch that has some juice on it.

Not having to play NZ, Pak picking Hasan Ali ahead of Shaheen, Nabi miscalculating the chase in the last few overs and Aus bowling Coulter Nile ahead of Behrendorff are all little things that simply delayed the inevitable.

Today's indian batsmen can't even play spin. They are the worst players of spin in the world.  India had best players of spin now they are worst players of spin. They can only play straight balls. Only department india has improved is fielding and running singles and couples.

Pakistan would have also smashed India had we batted first. Lol.

Indian team is nothing.

So would Zimbabwe but they didn’t qualify either  :phehe: so next time your team tours Zimbabwe you guys can decide who would potentially beat India.

Also don’t forget your other  padosis who might really kick your ass as they might get rid of Gulbadan without whom they were rolling you over
