India captain Virat Kohli is expected to fly back from Australia ahead of the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) to attend the birth of his child. Kohli's wife, Anushka Sharma, is due to give birth in the first week of January.

Efforts will be made to enable the 32-year-old to return for the last two Tests in 2021 scheduled to be held in Sydney (January 7 to 11) and Brisbane (January 15 to 19). The Board of Control for Cricket in India will be requesting the Australian authorities to relax the quarantine period for Kohli upon his return Down Under. However, without a travel bubble between India and Australia, Kohli is unlikely to join the squad again.

Kohli, who had led India to its maiden Test series win in Australia in 2019, is learnt to have informed the Board of his decision to return to India at the selection committee meeting to pick the squad.

The schedule for India's tour to Australia was confirmed in October. The ODIs will start on November 27 followed by matches on November 29 and December 2. The T20Is will be held on December 4, 6 and 8 followed by the first of the four Test matches in Adelaide from December 17.

Going to be so tough. Rahane will lead the side despite being the worst player in the XI LOL.

Must take a gamble and play Pant. Saha isn't going to change the course of the match with the bat on those pitches, Pant can.....at least on paper. 45 odd days to get in shape, put IPL horrors behind, moreover he has always been better in red ball cricket and will have nice memories from last tour. I am glad he isn't in T20/ODI squads, let him focus only on tests for now....start with shedding those extra pounds, test cricket will be physically demanding especially after such a long break.

Maybe start with Shaw, if he doesn't impress go back to Rahul. Rahane will play all 4 tests, Gill must debut. Prefer Saini but am pretty sure the dumb TM will go with Umesh. No Ashwin (unless Jaddu gets injured or in meltdown mode) since Vihari can bowl 10-15 overs of off spin every innings.

Maybe we should just pull out from this tour. No way we will be beating Australia this time. Forget about Smith & Warner who are beasts at home, not sure we will manage to get Labuschange out. He is in terrific form in shield cricket. And then there is this young sensation Cameron Green whom Australian pundits are putting as next big thing.

Not that we would have won with Kohli but now without him it will be next to impossible. Also, remember Ishant is not there too.

We are in for a cruel series and might get whitewashed actually.

Last 3 tests out of a 4 match series emoji38.png I mean why should he play the 1st test. Give the whole series to another captain so he can take full responsibility for the series.

+ 1 ... Let there be a comprehensive planning for the 4 tests under a new captain and not the kichadi we are going to see

Itni negativity kaha se laate ho bhai?

There is opportunity in every calamity

Hope it is end of Kohli's captani tenure (though it will not be),i would have liked him missing whole Aussie tour just for the sake of Team development

His negative mindset,on a tough tour where your opponent will be at full strength will be self destructive,im fed up with his constant chopping nd changing and destroying morale of his teammates

Hope he comes back with a fresh mindset, hope the new born brings some sense and good luck to him
