Had he been in test squad sure give him options and respect whatever decision he takes. But to do that to a net bowler is exploitation, taking advantage of someone just because he will be extra nice cos of his background. You know he doesn't need to be there, you know he is achha bachha who will nod yes to everything you say, and you want him to be away from his new born baby for extra 1.5 months!!! What sort of mentors/leaders are these people? Look at Virat statement after Natarajan bowled well in second t20. Something along the lines of he is still has lot to improve. Third match he says outsanding and will be part of T20 world cup. There is no consistency in Kohli's tought process he is really a poor leader along the lines of Sachin. you are expecting too much from him. He cant even removed from his captaincy as he is still young. No one even questions because he score some dead rubber runs. Man I thought Dhoni was bad Virat is even worse. dilliboy Posted December 23, 2020 Posted December 23, 2020 You can't fault a guy for wanting to see the birth of his first born child... Gavaskar just talking like a senile old man beetle, Vilander, Adamant and 1 other 4

Him staying in Aus as a net bowler is cruel, should be with his wife and baby. its a chance of lifetime for him, i am pretty sure him and his family see it as a great opportunity. Its different for Kohli, But lessons need to be learnt on leadership here, people have to be allowed to speak their mind.

Maybe in 3 years when he has 100 ODI wickets and his wife is expecting their 2nd one, he'll go. You can't force him to go, either. Maybe they offered to arrange another left arm quick but TN said, no, I'll do it. Really, we are all shooting in the dark here. cant compare Natrajan and Kohli position, Nat has money to make he is young rookie. Kohli is the current top player. Sunny is being salty here, but he has a point about discouraging disagreement, that will muddle strategy. It shows in the performance.

Adamant Posted December 24, 2020 Posted December 24, 2020 What about Williamson? Ponting? Bhajji leaving for sister's marriage etc etc Legends like Gavaskar shouldn't give statements like these, they are highly respected figures. Imagine Sachin, dravid, laxman doing this. It's completely Virat's choice. beetle 1
beetle Posted December 24, 2020 Posted December 24, 2020 Gavaskar is just making silly noise. Times have changedMr Gavaskar. Men are expected to take bigger role in parenting and that is a choice they should have . Just because it was done does not mean it was the right thing to do .Many things done those days are not done now . Not seeing your kid is not heroic . It is a personal choice that you live with . Don't make it look like you took a bullet for the country and get extra ' patriotic ' points for that. Natrajan should have got his chance to see his baby too but the pandemic makes it a hard choice for him . He is just starting out and getting a chance is far more important for him and his family too....a dilemma which Kohli does not have to face. Just because Gavaskar or Natrajan did not get a chance to see their new born, why should Kohli not get it too. Gavaskar is still bitter from his last controversy involving kohli's wife. That was one more thing that did not happen in his times.Times have changed Mr Gavaskar .
Lannister Posted December 24, 2020 Posted December 24, 2020 What's he trying to say, this old fart? Is he saying they didn't allow Natarajan to take leave? Or it was a self decision made by him? If it's the latter, then he just need to shut his trap.
rollingstoned Posted December 24, 2020 Posted December 24, 2020 will play devils advocate and say i agree with sunny. exceptional times and exceptional circumstances with the way we folded like a cheap suit in the 1st test requires a leader to stand up and lead from the front in the next game. this criticism would not have been valid if kohli had altogether skipped the tour to stay back home oddly enough.
Sandeep99 Posted December 24, 2020 Posted December 24, 2020 Love you Gavi, legend! Remove this tyrant from. Indian cricket! Useless 36 lolli

Natarajan’s first instinct was to beat the crap out of him. Then he reconsidered and instead, bowled some monster yorkers to Kohli in the nets. That was Kohli’s cue to go home. Gavaskar was right. Anushka’s bowling was easier... LordPrabhzy 1

Gollum Posted December 24, 2020 Posted December 24, 2020 Kohli fan club (+ PR gang) on SM is so toxic and potty-mouthed, just like the Dhoni worshippers. As annoying as Sachinstas are, they never stoop this low, sensitive yes but at least you can have civil discussion with them. Something Indian cricket will have to deal with in the future, whoever succeeds Kohli too will bring with him this baggage, individual above team, above Indian cricket. Lot of money riding on these superstars, intense competition, image building, lust for power........ Rasgulla 1

This is BCCI for you ,they want a God,Titan like figure to pull crowds for monetary gains They bestow too much power and blessings on select individuals,as if they haven't gone past the decade old minnow mentality, modern times people don't care about superstars atleast in cricket they just want entertaining cricket,COA was just a medium to give Kohli more than enough power Fault lies with BCCI,it will not end with Kohli's reign BCCI too needs to reform itself
Lannister Posted December 24, 2020 Posted December 24, 2020 Not sure why they have named the trophy after this old crook. There's nothing great about this guy. He is just a shameless bambi cheerleader.

"Civil discussion" looks like a paid PR post by "Wear helmet in the back also" fans. That being said should have stayed back after that 36 all out. Things are not the same! sorak 1

Maybe since he is long retired, had there been twitter15 years back could have been different.

However, in the case of Kohli, some people are coming out with criticism because Kohli himself has said multiple times how he puts his cricket before his family. He did not go to see his just expired father because he was playing a Ranji game. While saying this, he takes a very morally superior attitude in interviews. It may not go down well with many ex-players. You say it's his choice (to go or not go) and go on to criticize him for playing some moral one-upmanship. In both his cases, it was his choice. He could have gone when his father died, but played on in a Ranji game in 2006 to cement his place. But now, going back he might have regretted his decision back then and wants to correct.Nothing wrong. Same with Nattu, he was probably given a choice and he choose to stay so he can cement his place in the team. Who knows, god forbid, some other key bowler gets injured.
