Natarajan's daughter was born in the first week of November when he was still playing the IPL. At that time, Natarajan was named only as a reserve pacer for the national side. If he had come out of the Aus tour bubble, he would not even have played in the later stages in the IPL and may not even have travelled to Aus.

Thank you for posting this. Taking a paternal leave is a personal matter & shouldn't be questioned. But the main point Gavaskar is raising is about different rules for different players. Some players are harassed & some players are showered with love. Anyone who questions the hegemony of the regime has to be sidelined.

Maybe they asked Natarajan and he said he'd rather be with the team.  Just like with Siraj and his dad's passing.  Their choice.  

 

Until SMG knows one way or another, he must keep his opinion to himself.

 

Moreover, it is ridiculous to compare parental roles in the 1970s when Rohan was born to what it is today.  I doubt my dad took a day off when I was born.  Men went about their work and the womenfolk (mom, grandma, aunts) took care of the newborn.  Things are different today and dads want to be part of the baby's life from the outset. 

 

There is enough to criticize about VK.  Going home to see his child being born is not one of those things.

I get the Ashwin issue.  But does he really know it is different baby rules for TN vs VK?  Maybe the rule is that the player can go if he wants, and TN didn't want to go.

Different rule? Does Gavaskar know that TN applied paternity leave and it was rejected? May be he didn't because why will he let go of an opportunity to play for India? For Kohli, who is established, may have applied and granted by management. So what's the big deal here? Gavaskar is being petty here.

Stupid for Gavaskar to make that comment. If he wants to put priority over cricket on his family, more power to him. It is great to see how good a relationship he has with his wife. Criticize his cricket, not his personal life decisions. Cricket is a job for him. 

 

Now the only question I will pose is that is Anushka was expecting during IPL, would he have walked away, or would money have talked? I know the situation is hypothetical, but if he hadn't taken a leave then, I would question his sincerity towards his personal life. Again, just a hypothetical situation, not throwing rocks at his family life.
