I feel bad for Agarkar. Honesty never helps anyone especially in Indian. The guy is polished, comes across as unbiased, has a sharp cricketing brain but somehow is not good enough! 

People like Chetan Sharma and Kuruvilla can be no more than yes men because they never commanded the respect during their playing days. Precisely why they have been chosen. To be rubber stamps. 

As pointed out earlier, BCCI is going the Indian politics way!

Chetan Sharma was a decent player in his days, at least compared to these MSKs and Kuruvillas. But every time I heard him speak in those analysis shows, just non-stop nonsense. And the mindset these 3 had in their playing days, I fear they may prefer trundlers over up-and-rising genuine quicks like Prasidh. 

 

Imagine an alternative committee of Agarkar (CS), Gambhir, Sivaramakrishnan, data analyst, India A coach.

 

Instead we have Chetan Sharma (CS), Kuruvilla, Mohanty, Harvinder, Sunil Joshi.

As per BCCI, chief selector will be the one who has played more number of international games, so out of 5 selectors Chetan Sharma has played most number of games so that is why he has become the chief selector

Whenever I have heard Chetan Sharma speak about the game, it did not sound either insightful or informed. Mostly cliches and standard mundane stuff.

 

And does he have much knowledge about the modern game ?  I doubt it.

They have made the selectors job a retirement income for all ex-cricketers. Not based on a keen eye for spotting talent. This way, they will fall in line with coach and captain’s orders

In an ideal world, one would want the selectors to be a mix of bowlers, batsmen, wicket keepers & someone with captaincy experience ... but here all the 5 selectors are bowlers when we are in dire need of scouting for test class batsmen. Would have preferred SS Das from East zone.

I heard when we he first burst onto the scene he was a 145+ bowler

Read an article where some Carribean cricketer talked about facing him once ,he bowled him and said had the capability to bowl 145+,never seen him bowl live though as i only started watching cricket iirc from WC96
