Any other captain (in the history of cricket) and his international career would have ended in 2010-11 with no chance in tests as well. Wonder how many great players have been lost worldwide cos they didn't get backing from their captains and system. Actually its very tough to back a guy to this extent , also lack of all rounders worked in his favor for many years until hardik bursted on scene Dhoni did back few guys more then anyone wud - jaddu, ishant, rohit
DeepSpace Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 Sirji is an inspiration to upcoming youngsters. He has vastly improved his batting skills. Can chip in with wickets and we all knew he is the best fielder in cricket in this decade. Coming from humble background it is truly inspirational. In tests, he is coveted more than Pandya. Also in white ball cricket he has come leaps and bounds. Probably the best test allrounder in India today.

rtmohanlal Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 has been saying this for ages.... He should have been a permanent no:6 in the order. Him being such a quality bowler, he could have been included any way .Averaging over 50 in FC, he would have averaged at least 35 straight away with the bat in tests.More over him being a spinner, he would have handled his duel role much easier. I am sure , if he played all tests with out a break ever since his debut, he would have averaged 40 with the bat by this time...
neel roy Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 Dont forget his blinder of a catch which started Aussies downfall in first innings . Any other Indian fielder would have dropped it and made Gill look like a moron draining his confidence..

ash Posted December 29, 2020 Posted December 29, 2020 Problem is we have been trying to choose one between Ashwin and Jadeja. But with Jadejas superior batting skills now, we can play them both for the next 2 3 years
GautiMaan Posted December 29, 2020 Posted December 29, 2020 Would we see a similar return if Sir were to be promoted in ODIs also, say no 5 or no 6

Better than them with his returns, maybe not the same ability wise but in the last 5 years much better with the bat (more consistent) & much much better with the ball.

Play your two best bowlers in tests. Jadeja might be number 3 but in most conditions he's at least a top 3/4 bowler!

Let us agree to disagree. I think Stokes is numero uno, MVP in world cricket. Don't think Sir is better with the bat than Holder/Shakib...even with the ball he is better but not much much better, Holder/Shakib are well rounded and carrying their weak teams which adversely affects stats.

He's definitely better than holder with bat. At home he wouldn't get many opportunities to build proper innings, most of the time his job would be declaration batting, or else his average could have been in 40s easily Cricspin and express bowling 2

I am doubtful if he was there with pant in first test whether we would have folded for 244 in first innings. From 188/3 to 244 all out itself was a crime. My thought is.. If Pant and jaddu both being left handers were playing in Adelaide test , it would have been difficult to get them out with same metronomical angles which the 3 aussie bowlers were bowling to 11 RHB. India could have easily scored 275 in innings 1 instead of 244 and we would have taken a 100 run lead. And I am sure in 2nd Innings we would have scored 80 instead of 36, giving australia a target of 180 with 5 bowlers. I know its ifs and buts but if Aussies still whine about ‘If Warner Smith was there in 2018 it would have been different’ we can do the same for Adelaide Edited December 29, 2020 by neel roy Cricspin 1
Khota Posted December 29, 2020 Posted December 29, 2020 I don't know why everyone is acting surprised. Jadeja is the best India has to offer. Only on this forum people second guess him.

The Around the wicket angle which Cummins is so destructive at was neutralized. Pant fell to a poor shot but even that was hittable delivery but execution was not there. In my view it was the most important factor that somehow helped Indian batting.
putrevus Posted December 29, 2020 Posted December 29, 2020 If he can bat at no6 with Ashwin improving his bowling. India can play both of them. They don't have to search for bits and pieces players. coffee_rules 1
