neel roy Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 New Chepauk strip likely to offer turn from day 1 After one of the flattest decks on offer during the first Test in Chennai, task will be cut out for Tamil Nadu Cricket Association’s rookie curator V Ramesh Kumar and BCCI head of pitches and grounds committee head Taposh Chatterjee, to provide a track that doesn’t make toss so crucial. While currently, there is grass cover on one of the adjacent strips, which could be used for the second match, it is a given that there will be fair share of turn. It will be interesting to see whether Ramesh and Chatterjee stop watering the track during the next three days. If a dry pitch is baked adequately in sunshine, there could always be a case of pitch breaking early. There is always this school of thought in Indian cricket circles as to why questions are raised about tracks that offer turn from the first day whereas in places like Christchurch in New Zealand, the 22-yard strip couldn’t be identified from the outfield.
ShoonyaSifar Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 Preparing a rank turner is like handing Eng an easy win. Captain LOL and his wishy washy ways of showing he is a deep thinking leader saik, Frustrated and raki05 3
Frustrated Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 Recent reports suggest the pitch would offer more turn. But no where it's mentioned that it would be a rank turner. I doubt if they would dare to go for a rank turner , looking at our recent abysmal record. Eg: Pune test vs Australia in 2017. raki05 and express bowling 2
Rightarmfast Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 If its a rank turner, then India can already say bye bye to winning! RAZPOR, raki05, saik and 1 other 2 2
R!TTER Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 Chennai doesn't real turn the way red soil venues in Maharashtra do, if it does though it could be a made to order "blow in your face" bomb for Brat Basically it can happen, you never know with that guy, but I seriously doubt we'll see it turn square like those pitches.

One totally unknown factor is back to test in Chennai. With such a short gap between two tests, all the pitches near the main area of 1st test will be very very dry and properly baked under at least 5 days under the sun. Unless the curator is not asked to shave off the grass, don't be surprised to see a typical day 3-4 type track on Saturday. Frustrated and raki05 2
R!TTER Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 Tbh this could work in our favor if we strengthen the batting - bring in HP for one of Bumrah/Sharma & Axar for Nadeem. Without Butler & Bairstow I fancy we'd win on such a surface where the spinners can turn it square at pace. Clarke and raki05 2

Ball will spin like top

VT87 Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 Why is this negativity.? We have collectively better players against spin Pant,Gill,Pujara Rohit and Kohli and they have only one player Root that won’t win alone.bring on rank turner AuxiliA and Clarke 2
Clarke Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 A turner (not a day one minefield) should obviously help. 3 spinners who can put the ball in place, have a bit of variety and let the pitch do the rest, even 3 offies is ok in a way. Get rid of Rahane and top 6-7 should be capable of scoring runs.

Tibarn Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 If that is true, whoever bats 2nd will most likely lose, and, since we always lose important tosses, we can assume this favours England. Sgattick10 1
King6 Posted February 11, 2021 Posted February 11, 2021 Rank turner is good.We can't stop root in flat deck. In rank turner we can stop root.
ShoonyaSifar Posted February 11, 2021 Posted February 11, 2021 Last time we played on a rank turner, we scored 105 and 107 at Pune vs Australia... raki05, Rightarmfast and sorak 1 1 1
