Batting deep.  When will India ever get it?

Unless specialist bowler is a Bumrah....

Special bowlers, not specialists. bowlers who can take 10 wickets in all conditions.

You need at least 2 skills in cricket today, a good bowler with avg or above avg fielding is fine! The issue is most of our pacers are just above avg & sh!t fielders - this is why we need the likes of Thakur or even Krunal.

5 specialist bats (including wk)

2 batting all-rounders

1 bowling all-rounder

3 specialist bowlers

We've been playing this combo whole series. Today the sixth bowler was utilized and hence we defended a below par score.

I support this team combo.

We can only play the aggressive brand of cricket if we have an ODI lineup like:-

Rohit

Dhawan( for now and replace by Shaw soon)

Kohli

Pant

KL

Pandya

Jadeja

Shardul

Ashwin

Shami/Bhuvi

Bumrah

Without Shardul at 8 and Ashwin at 9, we can't do well consistently enough with the aggressive brand of cricket because there will be occasions where we lose 6 wickets by around 40 overs.

I think you should have 3 specialist batsman,3 specialist bowlers , 1 hard hitting wk batsman and 5 players who are good/above average in 2 of 3 skills. If they are average in one, they have to be exceptional in other.

I think you can no longer play KL, rohit, dhawan and kohli together.

Rohit , Kohli and Sky/iyer have to be the 3 specialist batsman.

The remaining 4 bat/bowl ar should be thakur, jadeja, sundar, krunal, ashwin,

Three specialist bowlers will have to be  shami, bhuvi and bumrah. All the rest will need to do back up duty

Team order

Sundar

Rohit

Kohli

SkY/iyer

Pant

Hardik

Jadeja

Thakur

Ashwin

Bumrah

Bhuvi

This way you have 3 wicket taking bowlers in bhuvi, ashwin and bumrah.

Jadeja could throttle runs and you have 4 bowlers who can bowl the 5th over.

If sundar is a luxury, replace with ishan.

If World cup is tomorrow, I will play this team.

Bating till 9.

6 bowlers including two experienced spinners.

we can pick bowlers who can bat a bit like thakur.

also if we are going to play aggressive we need bit of insurance with players like washington sundar.

add jadeja and hardik and you got lot of bowling options.

I believe that in modern ODI and T20, there shall not be more than 3 genuine bowlers.

Also, 6 bowling  options are must in white ball cricket. So there should be 2 batting allrounders and 1 bowling allrounder.

So for India,

Hardik

Jadeja

Thakur/ Washi

+ 3 specialist bowler should be way forward

Specialists, atleast 3 in ODIs are a must as long as they are quality. Wickettakers win you matches in the middleovers, that cant be substituted for any amount of batting ability.

T20, one can get away with having just 2 specialists. Bat deep till no 9 and have them bowl enough along with other options in the top 7.

We need to look for bowlers like Chahar and Thakur who can bat a bit. We CANNOT afford bowlers who bat like they have a broomstick in hand! Barring Bumrah, none are great in bowling either. They just serve up juicy half trackers or length balls which disappear into the stands and then show Allan Donald/ McGrath level of (non)batsmanship, which is totally unforgivable!

I agree but i would still want these allrounders to have that X factor be it with the bat or ball, someone like Kedhar Jadhav or good old Joginder Sharma should not make it into the XI just to make up the numbers
