There is very little that separates these two sides.  Battingwise India is marginally better thanks to unexpected tail contribution in this series. Shami, Bumrah, Thakur.  Although Rohit is not on par with Root,  Rohit/Rahul combo is on par with him.  

 

If you ask me India's strike rate by Indian bowlers is  a difference. . 

 

If you subtract Root's runs average of England side is 19. That is 6 point drop.

Actually this english batting is decent after they dropped Sibly, Lawrence, crawly and brought in pope, Malan Hameed Moeen. They have been tough to bowl to since then.

What separates these two teams?

We can bowl on flatter tracks much better than Eng can! Give Eng similar wickets like last series & they may win even this series but they also don't have Cook & stokes from that side! Yes Curran was a difference but frankly even in 2018 we didn't play our best side - if we did 3-2 loss was more likely than the 4-1 drubbing. Basically Ind bowling is better/batting is worse whilst Eng is definitely much worse with the bat & arguably with the ball as well, part of that is down to the pitches.

India want to actually conquer English conditions. The reverse cannot be said.

Root's captaincy just sucked a little bit more than Kohli's one has to agree.  Especially in a match where they had complete hold over India, they gave away by bowling utter garbage to Bumrah and Shami. That was  England's match to win. Same way first match was India's to win. It would have been 2-2 but for weather and brain dead captaincy of Root.

I believe this English team is far far better than the one we beat at Lords. 

Depth in batting & Guys like Malan Hameed Woakes Ali Have all chipped in & better than Sibley Crawley Buttler. 

 

India bowled incredibly well today..  Bumrah is unlucky he got only 2 wickets for that effort. 

Umesh was great as well.   One of our great overseas victory.  I'll rate it much higher over Lords one.

the sides are very similar..can play brilliantly but have their weakness. nz is much ahead than them.

NZ is ahead where ? Maybe in eng or nz conditions but certainly not in India. NZ was lucky to have played WTC final in England where conditions are very similar to their home conditions.

 

You should also consider India is playing in England and beating them in their own conditions where the England team have played their whole lives. This puts India leagues ahead of England.

 

England has no chance of competing in India. In fact, when they got tough pitches in India, they threw a tantrum and looked like they almost gave up.

What separates these 2 sides is the bowling speed of the 2 teams.

 

Indian fast bowlers can bowl.in good areas at 140 k+ and bowl hostile bouncers. Which means we can pick wickets on flat tracks.

 

While the England team is too dependant on swinging the ball and look toothless in flat conditions.

 

I know that Wood is really quick  .... but  1)  He lacks accuracy.   2)  Lacks the fitness to play most tests in a series.

Our bowlers can take conditions (pitch, overhead) out of the equation. English quicks can't.

Also our catching has been far better. In the 2 tests Eng lost they dropped at least 12 catches IIRC. Somewhat reminded me of RSA in Jo'berg (2018) and Aus in MCG last year. 

 

This test with better catching/fielding by Poms, we would have been reduced to a sub-150 score on day one (Kohli dropped by Root on 22, was Malan's catch) and Rohit/Pant would have been dismissed much much earlier in our second innings. Fielding let Eng down this test more than their bowling/batting. We have dropped max 5-6 in these 4 tests, but most importantly those drops didn't cost us too many runs.

Think we dropped 18 catches in the 2018 Eng series. 

 

Unless we do a Centurion 2018, we will finish with better catching stats this series. After that pink ball test fiasco (6-7 catches dropped) we have been quite good. Even Pant is keeping so well.

Such parity is not unexpected when a series is 2-1.  It's not like one team is up 4-0 amid such statistical parity.  And when you think about it, their margin of victory in H'ley was bigger than either of India's margin.  That evens it out some.  So, nothing really surprising here - the teams are somewhat equal overall.

 

But, if you look closely, you may conclude that hitting sixes (17-3) is the biggest difference

What surprises me is why we ho easy on Kiwis? Why? Why no bouncers? Why no yorkers. 

 

Is It cause they are phony nice guys?

Everyone knows we have better players than these two in Indian team 

 

Put in Gill, sundar and mayank in middle and our team looks much stronger.
