Bumrah goes almost missing in an entire test match .. all too often.

Zak did well overseas, but mostly after his county stint. boom would benefit from one, if he had the time.

Zaheer was also not very good with exaggerated movement, the ones who were much better IMO are Sreesanth & Irfan :burnout:

Bumrah needs more wickets. It's an achievement that Bumrah is taking so many test Wickets with this style of bowling while Cummins' bowling style is perfectly suited to test cricket.

Funny how we blame a bowler who averages 22 and strike rate under 50 and already won test matches/series on his own as though we had Malcolm Marshalls, Glenn McGraths, Steyns in all our history. This guy is a exception to the mediocre, dibbly dobbly medium pace bowlers produced by our system. We should thank our stars we finally found one match winning fast bowler. No bowler is gonna take 4fer or 5fer in every game, that's why you need other bowlers to also step up.

Missing out on flat pitches is understandable.

114-1 match figures on such conditions. Surprising.

Yeah it happens. That's when you give credit to the other team for playing well.  A great batsman can get out for a duck on a good batting pitch also. Its not a miracle.

And Bumrah, doesn’t surprise.

I really think the team mgmt needs to work gently with him on this aspect.

It is unreasonable to expect that he will run through sides often.

But one expects the leading bowler to at least to be able to provide breakthrough or two in a 5 day game when wickets dry up.

He averages close to 27/28 in the second half of his career so far as already expressed in a previous post.  So let’s not propogate the myth about 22 bowling average.

Yes, he is an exception for us given our legacy of fast bowlers is not outstanding.

We have high expectations because we all know his talent.

Batting and bowling are different.

A batsman has no 2nd chance once they are out. Bowler has entire inning to fix issues. They can be make wrong assessment of conditions in 1-2 spells and fix it later on.

That's why bowlers tend to have better records most of the time in bowling conditions. Batsman miss out a lot on flat pitches.

Why does it has to be boom or bust?

Either he does very well or goes completely missing.

I blame the era of instant gratification where we expect a wicket every few overs, even an off test here and there which is quite normal is very noticeable.

Yes, we have already forgotten that slower ball to Ollie Robinson or those yorkers to Ollie Pope and Bairstow.

How many times good/great bowlers return with figures of 119-1 in favorable bowling conditions?

Bumrah against good to great batsmen is still very much unknown. England team as we have seen is crap so I would not put too much stock there. Bumrah has one 5fer .One thing is sure like his captain he has come up very short in pressure situations.

everyone has off matches even on helpful pitches. what matters more is the frequency, and IMO the frequency is getting higher for Boom post-injury.

Bumrah looked like wanting to take wicket every ball. The strength of this Indian bowling attack is not to be flashy, they have to be workmanlike and be patient.

People are understimating the goodwork done by Bharat Arun and Shami with already his inflated ego refused to give that man credit.Bharat Arun is a very big loss for this team. I have no idea why he was not retained.

I think he still has ability to get big hauls in..  Just needs to copy what Cummins does & keep bowling at a regular spot with pace.  He used to do that a lot earlier but now he tries too much sometimes.  Keep it simple.

With this kind of bowling he will be carted around in Asia.
