We Need to Talk About Dravid

Recommended Posts

Erm what exactly is he bringing to the table?

No new ideas

Strategy and planning black-hole

Negative mindset

Extremely conservative and stale selections

Preference for age over youth

Rigid and regimented thinking

Fascination with trundlers

Looks bleak already and can anybody seriously see any rebuilding or regeneration, never mind major trophies under his watch?

Top order (#1-3) is an ongoing issues esp. by persisting with those probably moving into the “has beens” category … there is the backing of trundlers … Many players need to improve fielding/catching too

But most Indian coaches are probably brought in to not make too many major changes

PS If I recall correctly, Dravid wasn’t interested in being the coach (probably more interested in working with youngsters). The role was thrust upon him by BCCI

It was probably Ganguly who forced him to take over as coach

We seem to be executing better in T20. That's the only positive. Tests - 2 winnable overseas series have been lost and that's a massive failure. With a technically sound batsman like Dravid as coach, one would hope our batsmen to not wither away like marshmallows on a campfire time and again but they have done just that and there is no apparent improvement whatsoever.

he should not have taken it - not as though gangu had some secret blackmail stuff on him and forced him to do it. and after he took it - reluctantly or otherwise - it was his duty to improve the team in the aspects where it's lacking (which are many). hasn't done enough/anything about it

Dravid's fault if batsmen can't even chase 246? At the end of the day, players have to perform on the ground. Coaches and staff can do only so much.

I don't think anyone is blaming dravid alone for the batting failure.   Its more about the mounting number of embarrassing losses in every format under his tenure.

If coach gets the credit for BIG wins, then why is he not supposed to be blamed for losses?  Its not as if the coach is underpaid or something. He gets paid in crores for a reason.

Dravid would have had to give up whatever he was doing for BCCI before becoming the coach, iirc

As I said on the foreign coach/consultant thread, Ind coaches mostly don’t change things

Under Dravid, they are actually using more data driven decisions etc and are looking to play aggressive cricket in LOI's.

The only aspect I feel that they should focus on is the fielding which has been pathetic. A par fielding performance and we could have dismissed England for 211.

You can't expect them to win every match. We just don't have the personnel for that. That is either due to lack of requisite bench strength or poor selections.

Dravid can't be faulted for that.

What is this Dravid was forced by BCCI excuse lol.

he is not slave labor doing the job with a gun to his head . He is being paid a lot of money. Can’t emphasize enough on the lot of money part.

add to that Dravid is a professional cricketer/ coach so it’s not like he is forced to do a job he has no idea about (debatable).

Ganguly or Jay Shah haven’t held Dravid’s family hostage to do this.

One thing i hoped was improved batting technique in English conditions. Kohli is repeatedly doing the exact same mistake again and again.

The coaches keep saying we don't look to change techniques but only work on the mental aspects of the players game, never quite understood this, kohli needs a massive change in technique if he is to play a few more years, the open Chested stance has brought him into to trouble, trigger movement needs a change, just get this feeling there is hardly any weight transfer in his batting now, just plonking forward at every ball.
