Chetan Sharma Might Be Short-listed Again For New BCCI Selection Panel: Report

It is understood that BCCI are in the process of shortlisting the names for interview and last committee's chairman Chetan Sharma has a bright chance of being in the pruned list along with his central zone colleague Harvinder Singh. "If all goes well, on December 29, the CAC is supposed to meet physically in Mumbai and interview the shortlisted names," a BCCI source in the know-how of things told PTI on condition of anonymity.

Meanwhile, it is understood that Chetan and his committee has been given another week's extension and asked to cover this round of Ranji Trophy games.

"Chetan has a good chance of either being retained as the chairman or at least the North Zone representative if he is willing to work under new chairman, whosoever it is. The truth is BCCI is not getting any top names. It is not that they haven't sounded out anyone. If Chetan didn't have a chance, why would he apply? There must have been some assurances given," said a BCCI source.image.gif.9b4ef59af1f9f759c837377faaffe751.gif

So sacking was just a drama to show BCCI cares?

Did the BCCI even offer a formal statement communicating why they were sacked in the first place? Do the BCCI have rules in place dealing with re-applying for the same job after being sacked? If Sharma does not know why he was sacked it's no surprise he's applying again, as comical the whole saga seems from the outside.

Would not blame Sharma for looking after himself if the BCCI does not act as a principled, serious organization.

The issue is not Chetan reapplying but the fact that the BCCI is actually mulling reappointing him.

Indian sides popularity will sink to some random Ranji side's

They are hell bent to make this a least followed sport in India in record time

Good let them hit rock bottom. After that only one way that is up, if they still don't mend their ways we shouldn't mind because India is no more a one sport country. Cricket gave us some awesome memories in our childhood, we'll move on to something else.

There are two guys who speaks their mind and could have been selectors. Venkatesh Prasad and Ajit Agarkar.. but the TM and a lobby in BCCI are not fond of them as they could start kicking the tires and jeopardise bonhomie.. so thats why we will continue to have chetan fulltoss sharma..

Heard for a long time that Venky Prasad was going to be the Chief Selector.

What happened  !

It does sound like bad management but look at it this way, Rohit-Dravid selected the team they wanted and failed. So sacking selectors was never fair in first place. It is Rohit and Dravid and their experience group which should have faced the music.

Now Rohit and his preferred group of players are kicked out from T20s. A very small step in right direction. Next should be Dravid getting axed and we getting a proper head coach along with staff members.

The selectors were not necessarily “fired” but removed as max term for most of the selectors was over. Chetan Sharma has not exhausted his max term so is eligible to apply. Since he was/is chief selector, he could be continued as chief selector.

There is a lot of misinformation/assumptions on social media that it is as if no one takes time to understand the issue.

Sacking (only the) selectors after the T20 WC made no sense at all apart from hollow virtue signalling.

Selectors are just small fish. It's the Coach, Captain and the Senior players who are directly responsible for any team's performance and they should be the ones who should be held accountable first and foremost.

i met venky prasad at bangalore airport, he seemed an intelligent man but he seemed a soft gentleman , had soft hands ( when i got to shake hands with him). I think he would be a trundler fan as i could not see a fast bowler's attitude in him, that aura, confidence. i found him to be athletic and slim but not with stiff muscles. i would prefer chetan compared to Venky..as i am seeing chetan sharma and team are giving opportunities to youngsters as well specifically he has backed umran after the world cup.
