Pant's shot selection has let the team down sometimes - Shastri

Stage being set for the comeback of the selfish leech. Its clear with the way Shastri is having a go at Pant here. Sure, give Pant a dressing down if he plays a rash shot and gets out but keep that **** private. This is just putting pressure on the youngster.

The wicketkeeper-batsman's shot selection has been under the scanner. While reiterating his faith in Pant's talent and destructive ability, Shastri said some of his shot selection had let the team and himself down.

"When you see a shot like the one in Trinidad, off the first ball, [it's disappointing]," Shastri said in an interview to Star Sports, referring to Pant skipping down the track to Fabian Allen in India's third ODI against West Indies in Port-of-Spain, only to mis-time his loft to mid-off.

"He tries to repeat it a couple of times and gets out, he will be told," Shastri said. "There will be a rap on the knuckles there - talent or no talent - because you are letting the team down, forget letting yourself down. You are letting the team down in a situation where you have the captain at the other end [Kohli was at the crease when Pant got out with India needing 164 off 22.3 overs]. You have a target to chase where the need of the hour is some sensible cricket."

Kohli has always been in awe of Rohit Sharma for some reason, and Shikhar is his Delhi buddy. But otherwise he won't let anyone he doesn't like/who can potentially challenge his superstardom settle down - first he went for Pujara and Rahane, then KL Rahul, now he has started slowly screwing Kuldeep (guy went from no. 1 spinner overseas last Dec as per coach, to barely in squad now), Pant....am confident Mayank will also be axed at first whiff of trouble, and Gill will be singled out for 'special treatment'. Saini might be left in cold as he is perceived to be gambhirs man.

He is a kid with one of the rarest talent....ffs leave him alone. He plays a high risk game which is his strength...dont make him like every other batsman. 

 

A player will only learn after making mistakes thats what u call experience.....lekin inko sab pehle din se saiyaane chahiye. 

 

The last time shastri gave such statement about KL when he was performing....n it resulted in him being insecure. 

 

I swear if they wud have gotten sehwag, yuvraj, rohit at start if their career....they wudnt have been great careers.  This is the single reason they cundt find number 4 lack of patience...

Sehwag also got whacking from seniors n coaches but those things never came out then. 

 

Every youngster does this ....everyone takes times to get shot selection right specially guys like rohit, yuvraj, pant who had a range if shots that many others dont possess.

Duncan was a bit unlucky that he got toughest tours in transition phase .... Youngsters at that time like rahane , kohli gave interviews on how duncan helped them bat well overseas in early part if the career with wide stance .

he said sometimes, this is what happened in the semis. I don't think anybody is saying he is bad player.

Pant did disappoint with cringe-worthy shot selection in quite a few innings. He needs to fix his weakness of not being able to rotate the strike ASAP.
