Has the Declaration come little too late?

Rohit will be first batsman to be shipped out once Pandya comes in. I feel they wanted to test out all six batsmen.

If Rahane was in fine form I bet Vijay Shankar would have been playing these matches instead of Rohit. But they know Rahane is in terrible slump and if they chose Shankar they would be leaving batting too thin.

This I agree with

If you can’t take 7  wickets of this Lankan team on day 5 then it is better that the entire team should collectively retire from test cricket.

I didn’t see the whole match, just the scorecard and the declaration seemed fine....they are also missing one of their best batsman Herath so we should be fine.

No.

Worst case scenario, we'll need 75 overs, which might be too close for comfort. That's it.

If we get an early wicket or 2, we'll wrap it up in the 1st hour after lunch.

Letting the game drift against hapless Sri Lankan side. Not confident with 360 on last day against this team. Hayden is right. Against teams with similar level of talent, the lack of initiative will hurt. The bowlers look lacklustred. Last 20 overs. Whether they eek out a result or not, the series has been more useful for Sri Lankan team.

Seems like OP just woke up in the middle of the match and decided to write this. The runrate was excellent by both of the teams, meaning it was a quick outfield and runs were coming easy. You don't want to risk that by giving lot of time to Lankans.

So we reached the correct score exactly when Rohit scored 50? What an amazing coincidence

he could have declared with Rohit at 49. would that have made much difference. He could have declared at 375. Would those 5-6 extra overs have made much of a difference looking at the current scenario?

is this the first time match is going to be a draw on a flat pitch?

think it was more of an experiment by Kohli. He opted for 6 batsmen  in an attempt to get Rahane back into form. Also he didn't need to loose this test  either and  also  wanted to  get  Rohit prepared for SAF TOUR.Hence included 2 pacers & 2 spinners only, it seems. This resulted in the lack of an extra spinner .

if ind win we are beating a crap side and playing soft cricket but when its a draw ,its more useful for SL,so Ind cant do anything right, you are at your self loathing best

having said that ordinary performance from bowlers irrespective of declaration, most disappointed with Ashwin and Shami

Quite likely.

5 extra overs towards the end of the 4th day always favours the bowling team. Batting team cannot make much dent on the score in those overs but can easily lose a wicket or two.

I stand corrected. This is an extremely flat wicket. Not much in it for the bowlers.

The series has been wrapped up but credit to Lanka for not capitulating.

350 was sufficient, Shami and Ishant were bowling really good with new ball yesterday, but their were curtailed due to bad light, and spinners ended up bowling, wasting the new ball

perosnal milestones are too much of attractive, even for Kohli

Idiotic thread. The only reason srilanka still hasn't won the game is because of the fact that Indians took their time to declare and added extra 50/60 runs. Otherwise srilanka would've won the game by now.

So you think if India had declared on 360  then SL would have chased this total in one and a half days?

Again the joke is on the people who believe the bullshit we see in Media from Kohli/Shastri about "Aggresion" and "Personal milestone out of the window" etc. Stop believing in what PR feeds you and learn from the actual actions on field. By this time these players already know that nobody would question anything because PR is doing its job bloody well to fool everyone.

How is bowlers inability to take more than 2 wickets on fifth day responsibility of the captain.Declaration was fine, Ashwin stunk big time , he has again given fodder to his critics that needs turning tracks to take wickets.

Ashwin really need to work on his body language, if he's not getting wickets or any help his shoulders drop. Instead of sticking to a particular length for testing the batsman his line and lengths vary too much giving many loose deliveries.

A bowler who has taken 300 test wickets needs to be much more brave.

Just wait and watch mate. I have allways maintained. While a captain can not afford more then one or two players in his good books but Captain must be in good books of every player.

If a player like Tendulkar needed stellar performance of GG and MSD to win a world Cup, How do you think that someone who kicks GGs butt openly will ever get that support from his team mates. Kohli may be genious bat, but Cricket is played by 11 players.

And coach role is equally important. No ball, Miss catches are just beginning of Shashtri effect. Coach Shashtri is more advanced version of Duncan Fletcher
