No follow-on

After an excellent day it was a pity Kohli didn't opt for the follow on. However he might get away with it if there is enough play left. I am still optimistic that we can pull this win off. Just need to get Australia back quite early tomorrow.

If it rains, tough luck.

Don’t understand the negativity behind your national captain wanting to rest your bowlers a bit so they can come fired up again.

Aren’t we always whining about giving them proper rest and rotating them. They have bowled in two full test matches and here have been brilliant. They will come fresh tomorrow to get the job done.

Half the posters are high school kids who are probably fat and the only sport they play are the simulated ones in video games.. No actual physical sport experience to tap from. Lol complaining about scoring rates.. When the team is freaking 350 runs ahead with 5 wickets and.there are 2 days remaining..

If it does for few mts inbetween like it is predicted aus will get rolled over quicker. It's Aus not Papua newguniea or meghalaya.

With rain around the corner ,it would have been better had we enforced the follow on.

It's not like the bowlers bowled 100 overs and coming after short break .they have been rested for 10 days and ideally we should have gone for the kill

The Art of War says that one should never show the weaker spot to the opponent. Indians are known for their poor batting. Kohli exposed them to the Aussie attack and the result is out there for everyone to see.

Keep this match aside, even if we win this match due to bowlers, what kind of confidence are the other batsmen going in with , in the next match? The Aussie bowlers have already smelled blood and they are springing with energy. They believe they can do this. Just a session before, the Aussies were down and out. When your opponent is down and out, you kill them. Not give them an option to redeem themselves again. This is Art of War, and this is common knowledge. Every corporate, every sports coach knows this. Dont tell me Shastri and Kohli dont know this much.

Kohli is taking Indian cricket to new low day by day!

I agree with this. We will probably win now but with a follow on it would have been more than just a win, it would have been an annihilation.

Anyhow, hopefully its a lesson learnt and we can quickly go 2-1 up.

Too much wrist slitting in this thread. I agree with Kohli's decision. The team following on usually does better than the first attempt. This would mean a further 100 overs. If that happens, then our bowlers would be tired having bowled 160+ overs on the trot. Already Bumrah was on the sidelines before he cleaned up the tail. Someone here mentioned the heat wave going on in Aus right now. If we bowl for that long, our quality of bowling will come down and also increasing the chances of injuries.

We have seen Aussie quicks bowl at 135 at the end. At the end, they even gave up and bowled Marsh and Finch. We can't keep the intensity up for that long. Its a good decision to give our quicks a nights rest. It doesnt matter even if we are bowled for 100 in our second gig. We would have 400 and I dont think Aussies would chase that. Also add on the additional benefit of more wear and tear of the pitch which would quicken the Aus 2nd innings. I hope rain stays away though.

Also bear in mind we have another test coming up and we need our bowling lineup firing there too. I don't usually agree with Kohli's tactics but I'm ok with this one.

The people who are abusing Kohli for not enforcing follow-on, are the same ones whinnied about India's slow batting on D1 and D2. Matlab, once a wrist"slitter, always will be one. After Kolkata 01, no captsin dares to volunteer to bat on I4. Plus the series is still tied with one more test, no need to risk it.

WTF looooool.  Art of war is winning and thats what doing FFS lol  You like Hitler, attacking Russia in the winter , false Bravado lol

No one enforces follow on now.  Bolwers get a rest, Batters dont bat last on wearing pitch, oppo bat last on wearing pitch plus if they have a total to chase sometimes get out going for it

In summary another wrist slitting post by a bitter dhoni fan I woud say.  Cheer up aussies getting raped

Lets re-cap. This is third day, India are nearly 300 ahead, pitch is starting to mis-behave and bowlers have bowled only 60 overs.

If this is not the perfect follow-on scenario, i don't know what is.

Kohli showed us today he is a coward - he is a coward because had he inserted Australia, the worst case scenario for India would be chasing 50-100 runs. Australia would just likely be bundled out for less than 300 and India would've had an innings victory.

Instead, he left the door open for PRECISELY what is happening right now - Indian implosion and giving Australia hope.  Cowardly decision being punished by instant karma. I am loving it.

Just when I was going to praise Team India and the think tank, they show their true colors. Now India will probably get bundled for 375 and Aussies will have a target they can chase. Perhaps Bewda likes to chew on his own gotis or Bubbloo’s. :giggle:

I think he sure talked to his bowlers before taking the decision. Back to back test. Shami and Bumrah both had to sit out for a while before coming back. Infact Bumrah was having stiffness for a while. Last thing you need is Premiere bowler breaking down. It also serves the purpose of wearing their bowlers more. But we played uber carelessly.

He took the correct call. I agree with his decision. IT was 35 degrees temperature. Both shami and Bumrah had stiffness for a while.

I would have preferred to pick up 3-4 Aus wkts in the last session as scoring 350+ would be a challenge for Aus but nothing to complain about Ind not following on as if they plan to bat till lunch (unless bowled out) .... I don't play for weather. If it rains, it rains. In the long run, if you keep changing your strategy as per weather, you are more often likely to be on the receiving end so it is better to ignore weather, which is out of our control

As for the silver lining, it is hard to have a perfect game so if whatever can go wrong goes wrong, we still had a lead of 290+. If we cannot bowl Aus out for 350 or less, they deserve to win

Did you have gas or acidity when you wrote this?  did you feel better after spewing this?

You do realize that its hot AF out there, and our bowlers bowled their hearts out to take 10 wickets?  They need proper rest so that they can go all out again and take the next 10 wickets in this test.  And the following match in Sydney as well.  No need to sacrifice that in pursuit of an "innnings" victory.  I still expect Aus to keel over for less than the lead we have anyway.  Let the bowlers rest for another session or so.

Let Australia "hope" all they want. They aren't crossing 200 against us in the 2nd innings, unless they get massively lucky.  This game is over.  And a win is a win, I'm happy that Kuptaan Wrogn didn't ride the bowlers in some silly attempt at chasing innings win.

Only caveat is the imminent rain.  Frustrating.

Rain is not going to take away too much time, even if an entire session is lost, still enough time on this deteriorating pitch, against these sorry-ass batsmen to take 10 wickets.

Indian team needs to protect their match-winning bowlers.  They are not machines.  They are thoroughbreds.  it will take time for fans to adjust to the new reality.
