So Shaw merits a test opening slot over Rahul ?

Rahul repeatedly failed when given an extended run, and now Shaw is ahead of him on the most glorious exalted pecking order, so never mind Rahul's form, or Shaw's flashiness - Shaw is going to get a run now.

On topic of the thread - Bhogle has a fair point - but its a horses for courses pick.  And a  bit of a gamble.  The temptation for those extra runs, especially when our tail isn't very productive was too much to resist.

Now if Pant drops a crucial catch, you know all hells' going to break loose.

Also tweeted,

”Am waiting to see Shreya Ghosal left out of a major concert because the other girl could strum the guitar a bit better”.

and then he deleted the tweet. Seems like everyone and their mothers are going after Pant :facepalm:hope he scores a big one and shuts these losers up

It pretty much tells you everything about Harsha Bhogle as an analyst. He is garbage. Not even domestic teams play keepers if they can't contribute with the bat, no matter how good they might be. There is not much advantage being the best keeper in the world tbh, as long as you are competent it should be fine. Doesn't need to drop/miss dollies that's all and Pant has been more than decent.

However Pant with his style of play can be a game changer with the bat in hand. That's invaluable and must be encouraged.

Saha has dropped ONE gettable chance that I remember - and that was after suffering an injury in that game that resulted in him missing a bunch of games after.

Pant, by contrast, has regularly dropped catches.  There is simply no dispute or argument on the reliability of their glovework.  With Saha, if a drop happens, its an anomaly.  With Rishabh, its expected.  And that's not even taking into consideration the half-chances that Saha would be expected to take, that Pant, with his poor footwork, would only make unsuccessful "acrobatic dives" for, only to perform a catchy little kip-up to get off the ground.

Don't be seduced by Pant's youth, his obvious batting potential.  When talking about glovework, Saha is Amitabh Bachchan while Pant is barely Shakti Kapoor.

With such a great form Rahul is in, he should have been in test , ahead of Shaw and I agree with Harsha, the best keeper in the world should have been  the keeper in the game of the specialist, TEST.

The same logic that dictates picking Pant over Saha - the argument for 'horses for courses', "best possible team" on the day etc - ought to dictate that a Rahul or even a Gill is more likely to do the opener's job in NZ conditions over Shaw.

But Virat and his yes-sir-my-captain-anything-you-say Coach, have shown a consistent and remarkable ability to deploy a dizzying variety of reasons and conflicting reasons in their selection policy.  Its the primary factor stopping India from being a truly ATG dominant side at the moment.

No doubt that pant needs more keeping to spinners in the subcontinent, but what wrong has he done overseas while keeping? Stop making **** up for the sake of argument.

Start watching more games, and you'll see.  He has dropped chances in Eng/Aus already.

He is consistently off-balance with his footwork against pace and spin - and as a result almost always 'late' getting his gloves on the ball, never in optimal position - hence the need for more "spectacular" looking dives.  Don't argue if you don't pay attention and watch the games.  Scorecards and cricinfo articles don't give you the facts - and watching youtube videos is entertainment, not education.

If Bhogle really had the best interests of the team in mind, he should have directly named Kohli-Shastri in his tweet. But he’s attacking Pant’s skills than going after Kohli and his bizarre selections.

He's not attacking Pant - he's questioning the logic of not picking the best gloveman.

Even on fan forums, folks need to learn to attack the idea and argument, not the man.  Think about it.
