'Unhappy' CSK management to take tough calls ahead of IPL 2021, several players could be axed: Report

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) might be the 'most consistent' franchise in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) but it certainly seems to have 'run out of juice' this season. After head coach Stephen Fleming himself admitted to the failures of the team in IPL 2020, a report has surfaced claiming that the top bosses are ‘extremely disappointed and unhappy with the results’ and are looking to make some 'tough calls'.

It's been a season of sheer disappointment for CSK who are bottom of the points table with just 3 wins in 10 games. While there remains a mathematical chance of qualifying for the playoffs, another defeat will put the entire equation out of context. One of the biggest problems for the team has been their attacking prowess. While the likes of Shane Watson, Faf du Plessis, MS Dhoni, Ambati Rayudu remain in the team, they haven't quite managed to finish off games even when good starts have been there.

Questions have been raised over MS Dhoni's captaincy, especially with regards to the backing of players like Kedar Jadhav. As per a report in InsideSport, Jadhav is among a host of veteran CSK players who are likely to be shown the door before the next season, especially if the auctions are taking place.

“See as Fleming has said, lot of chinks in the armour has been exposed this time. Some tough calls surely will be taken. The only issue is there is little time between now and the next edition”, a source was quoted as saying in the report.

Which players could CSK axe?

Over the course of the 2018 and 2019 season, the Super Kings showed that they don't mind the tag of 'Daddy's Army' with several players over the age of 30 or even 35 putting in match-winning performances. This season, however, has been quite different for them.

The team management is reportedly looking to get more young blood in the team and make the transition by axing a number of experienced players. The likes of Shane Watson, Piyush Chawla, Kedar Jadhav, Imran Tahir could also be shown the door while Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh are already out of their 3-year contracts.

If they want to retain dhoni as captain ask to play some competitive cricket in between and management has to buy 10 players around him that doesn't make him feel like a liability

Also, Mega auction is in 2022 so what will they buy mostly foreign players which isnt that big a problem for them. They shud hold all players and exchange players from other squad

  • MI will fall for bhajji or may be even rayudu
  • SRH needs Experienced indian middle order player so they might fall for few
  • More then half of teams will still go for Raina

:csk: might target players like Amit Mishra , Uthappa , Malinga , miller in the next auction

You mean another set of oldies or proven failures or both. We should try one or two out of Jason Roy, James vince, Sam Billings, Mark Wood and recruit from TNPL and other state leagues. Its a shame that emerging tamil players like Natarajan, Chakravathy and Sundar are playing for other teams.

This is so gratifying... A living example of Dhoni’s Failed Process...

Hope he gets kicked out of CSK eventually for bringing disrepute to the Franchise...
