Split captaincy across any format will not work. Hope good sense and we get a new captain for all three formats.

It worked for a while till 2007-09 when Kumble was captain for tests! It can certainly work if you don't have greedy SoB's hogging all the limelight.

This would be very wrong if they’re thinking of it as anything other than a short term fix.

If they can’t find a younger captain then one of Rohit’s clearly stated priorities should be selecting and grooming the LOI players and teams that will play in the next 5-7 years. Including the next captain.

But given that this is BCCI I fully expect a one years grace period, one year of indifferent performances and another year to allow him to ‘retire gracefully’.   And then the same dance again.

Kumble had stopped playing ODIs after 2007 WC. It never came to a situation that our test captain played under ODI captain or vice versa. Given the bad blood between Rohit and Virat since 2019 WC, it will only lead to more groupism and ego battles.

Isn't Rohit Sharma older than Kohli?

Really need to start building for the future and short-term solutions are not the way to go

He is older but not washed up and weak like Kohli. While safety is his priority, Rohit can still play a blazing knock or two of there is no other choice. Kohli can't. He tried and tried all season in the IPL and failed. He should retire now and save his brand value because the longer he plays, the more it will be destroyed.

Great another over rated choker who doesn’t even deserve a place in T20 is rewarded as captain. He had the strongest team in IPL and embarrassingly couldn’t even make the playoffs partly due to his poor captaincy.

Rohit is unfit with that belly and should be phased out. He is a poor example for young cricketers

Kohli should be removed from Odi captaincy too, very good move by the BCCI.

Rohit deserves a chance to lead in the 2023 WC, but I am not really excited about his t20 captaincy coz I think he is not a great t20 player and not good enough to have a permanent place in the side.

Pant should be our t20 captain, Rohit Odi captain and Virat as test captain.

Bring Ruturaj into the T20I mix ASAP and groom him to be captain.. He has the calm demeanor and seems to have the right temperament.

I have been calling for him to be CSK's captain as well.

Rohit should captain till 2023 and Ruturaj should take up after that if he continues to show the same promise

kohli should have dropped himself of t20 captaincy and even retired from t20 after the world cup.

Indian team got beaten by PAK and NZ team indicates that Indian team did not perform well in t20 world cup and finally virat kinda failed as a captain. i think he became a bit negative by resigning first.

why did he fight with Kumble as coach and why did he revolted against Kumble?

He seemed to be showing himself as kinda too powerful person with captains in all 3 formats.

it is good that India will have 2 captains for INDIA and it indicates that it will make them understand that they are not GODS. now they will know that Kohli and rohit are equally important.

so long story short 2 captains will be a good step for India.

Need to groom Shreyas Iyer as Captain (hasn’t got any Bollywood connection or influence yet). Kohli-Sharma era on the downhill now. KL is dating Sunil Shetty’s daughter. So he’ll not be a right candidate either.

Saurav & Dhoni had not Bollywood connections and there’s a reason why they were so successful captains. The betting & drugs underworld gets all the information from these Bollywood connections. Sharma’s BIL Bunty owns a player’s management company. So BCCI needs to think very hard for future Captain.

Speaking as a brahminical patriarchal Iyer, I approve of this message.

to be honest, I can't imagine anyone as captain.. guys like Rohit are too old.. others like Pant, Iyer have no permanent spots and KLR is a mental midget.. Bumrah is an option but we are not sure when he would get injured or would be needing some rest

There is only one answer esp. if Ind wants to adapt a free flowing style of cricket and fearless approach -> SDP :thumb:

After all the trails and errors (and possibly more pain) and learning the hard way, Ind is likely to finally end up where it should have started (India is a laggard and usually looks to change when the water touches the nose)
