What happened in the Pak and NZ matches? Did he turn a Minnow player?

v an inform Pak, highest SR for Ind and tried to make the most of limited balls; v NZ, came in at 48/4, to steer the ship. Because he spent some time in the middle, got close to his best touch, helping him in the next game

In both the games, he could have been played up the order so Ind could have got close to 170 v Pak and not be 48/4 v NZ :winky:

These defenses are worse than what Khota bhai provides for Dhawan in T20s

I can't help if people keep dumb expectations. V Pak, he came in with 13 balls to go. I guess, he is supposed to score a 50 there (when no one even had a SR like him). V NZ, he had to grind with 48/4. I guess, he should have scored a 100 :hmmm:

IOW he needs a platform cushion to tee off. Highest SR 11 (8) at death means dog poop. Even SKY at top order made 11 (8) which is considered a failure, with nobody even noticed his score

When you play in the top order, you have the cushion of wkts in hand and tons of balls remaining. Batting in death overs esp. in the last two overs can be a lottery. Do not forget that as soon as Afridi came back to bowl, he removed Kohli who had played 49 balls. Jadeja went at 13 off 13. Just walking in, SDP actually took 17 runs (2 4s + got an overthrow for 4 as well), of Afridi's over. Got out going for a 6 in the 20th over. There is nothing to criticize.

Has he ever played a knock where team had avg score midway and he lived upto his reputation by accelerating it to good score? How many times has he done that while chasing? Something similar to what Asif Ali did recently?

He does well very rarely in T20I cricket, and those very few inningswhen top order has piled runs. For ex - the match against Afghanistan.

Against top 6 countries his average is 19 with strike rate of 131. If he plays as pure batsman in t20 i don't think he deserves the direct spot in the team. For all the hype about pandya academy i thought he must be striking over 150 in the format. Pant too is playing at 125. Need alot changes quickly.

Some of my fav SDP performances in his injury impacted career  … From the top of the mind recall:

  • 3 wkts in 3 balls v BD 2016 T20 WC (not batting but like it!)
  • 27 off 12 v SL
  • 31 off 18 v BD
  • 32 off 9  v IRE
  • 33 off 14 v ENG
  • 21 off 11  v NZ
  • 42 off 22 v AUS (MoS)
  • 39 off 17 v ENG
  • 35 off 13 v AFG

:hatsoff:

Of course, took 17 runs of Afridi’s 19th over and steadied ship v NZ (NAM were in a similar position v Ind where Weiss scored 26 off 25 or something)

More to come …

And still scored only 11(8) :hmmmm2:

Yeah (and the highest SR for Ind), with a couple of boundaries and got an overthrow in with his aggressive attempt at running as well, which resulted from hitting those 2 4s

Coming in to play mostly in the last 2 overs against an inform Afridi where he picked up a batsman who had played 49 balls and momentum stalled by Jadeja with 13 off 13

If Ind did not make the tactical error of sending Jadeja to maintain L-R combination, SDP could have got even more!

Anyways, I like such threads as I see those as good omen got SDP

Most of the Ind players need to get to a 50 to improve their strike rates and averages. SDP = Ind's best when it comes to getting off the blocks quickly and making an impact versus competitive sides in T20s:

SDP's strike rate of 140 is without getting an opportunity to get to a 50. Others go at much lower strike rates when they score less than 50, which is most of the time.

SDP is in a different league :hatsoff:

T20 is all about top 4. He batted a lot at 6/7 where it's very difficult to have impact as a batsman. Most times you get very few balls to bat and if you get more, it will mostly be when top 4-5 fails when the pitch isn't is to bat. You will have to see how many times he came into bat with 50 balls remaining in the innings because T20 is an hit and miss format for lower middle order. Most impact batsmen in T20s are top order batsmen. The reason England put butler at the top instead of 6.
