Time to separate Pant the test superstar from Pant the loi hack.

Pant has been getting a lot of criticism from Indian fans for his IPL and international loi performances. Some well deserved and some out of pure spite and jealousy but as I said there is some merit to that criticism.

 

however Pant the test player is the 2nd coming of Adam Gilchrist and in a couple of years case can be made he is better in tests.

 

Pant is a test super star. That’s already etched in gold in cricket history.

 

still hackish in LOIs. Has an upside still but far from being a regular.

 

let’s see that with clarity.

He hasn't figured out his loi game yet,he should not be burdened with Kaptani

Actually in ODi he is doing well in last 2 yrs. 

 

Dravid-Rohit shud find what is the best way to get the best out of pant in LOI, may be opening

Undoubtedly. I would want to see him take some break from T20s and leave it to Kishan and DK.

 

He should play tests and ODIs for now. He can be brought back in T20s anytime. It is not even really relevant if he builds a huge legacy for himself in ODIs and Tests both(in tests he seems to be already building one).

I don't think anyone has issues with him as a Test batsman.  Just that in T20 there are better keeper batsmen.

His authority on the crease has been more stronger than even the great Sachin.. Saurav or Dravid. None of them looked this confident especially against stronger teams abroad. Sachin had similar shades on few occassions. 

Pant is absolutely the best.

 

And yes, Pant is already better than Gilchrist.

Currently i rate him ahead of even gilchrist. He is just 24 and is already considered goat by now. If he keeps up his performance in this format he should end up as most impactful batsman in test cricket.

Pant is a rare combo batsman we have who has both power n range , only other guy who has that is KL rahul 

 

Hack is someone with no skill, bas tang nikal ke bat ghumata hai...............Mandeep singh was a hack not these guys

Pant cannot start hitting from ball 1. Especially in ODIs where 20-30 run cameos are not good enough anymore, he needs to open. We need someone who can make 80 ball centuries in the top order.

Back him in ODIs & Tests..  He will come good in ODIs could be clutch for us come WC 2023.  T20 is a complex format.  You don't have much time to line up anyone. 

Leave him out of T20s for now.

Game is perfect for odis provided he is used correctly. He will figure out his game in t20s. It will be tempting to shoehorn him to follow the path Sehwag took but he should be encouraged to be an all format player imo.
