When will Hero Worshipping fade out in India?

Virat is one level above these other celebrities.

Just seems like winning has become less important to the masses now. Tendulkar, Gavaskar, Kapil were also given hero status. But they were also sacked when they didn't deliver.

Virat is given a different level of privilege. He is even given the power to grant a certain coach full immunity against failure.

I disagree.

India just has a huge population so it makes it look like it.  If 1% of India's population is a superfan of someone, that is 10 million people: more than the population of some countries.

The whole celebrity obsession culture is far stronger in the West. Look at Trump, Obama, the Clintons family, Bush family. That's just politicians. Athletes like Kobe Bryant, Tom Brady. Even losers are literally celebrities without even doing anything, like the Kardashians.

Many(most?) people in India still look down on actors/actresses in my experience. The phrase nachaniyo/nachaniya doesn't exactly has a positive connotation.

Couple of dozen seasons of this crap, a crazy cult worshipping these nobodies.....will put Salman/Rajinikanth fans to shame.

Keeping Up With The Kardashians' May Be Leaving, But The Family's Fortune Is Here To Stay

YouTube Revealed Its Most Popular Royal Wedding-Related Videos

And for FFS those stupid royal weddings garner 100s of millions of views even in North America, so many Western countries with loser royalists whose entire lives revolve around that freeloading royal family. Once read that thousands in Canada had camped for 2 days to catch a glimpse of some princess of theirs. India doesn't need lessons from the West or even Pakeeees who have elevated Imran Khan to level of holy prophet. Days of cinema stars and celeb sportsmen winning elections are over in India.

Indian society needs to understand that people like Kohli, Modi and Salman Khan are regular humans like the rest of us. They are not gods and never will be.

India is probably the only country in the world that follows this hilarious tradition of hero worshipping! :hysterical:

Very good post. Only the biggest idiots worship cricketers. They are sportsmen. Worship Gandhi and true heroes.

Every country has hero worshiping , don’t short sell only India

Not to the extent it is in India. Kohli after multiple failures is still the leader.

Modi after per capita income has dropped below BD is still the leader.

India is pretty bad in that.

What? He was elected by people. WHo will fire him? People has to vote out BJP in 2024  for that to happen.

It is per-capita GDP that is what you are referring to. It is becaise of huge population and plus BD is pushing illegal BDs to India.

dont be so sure man, heard rajinikant floated a party in TN.. :hushed:

Doubt he will achieve much success, and never in the scale of MGR. Look at Vijaykanth/DMDK or that Sarathkumar party, hopefully people have seen through their nautanki by now;. Same with Chiranjeevi, Pawan Kalyan, no takers among Telugu people these days.

This is laughable. That BD push illegals into India to raise their score on some IMF metric! The illegals that you speak about would not even be counted for the most part on any of census counts. They are people, who for all practical people, have a rootless existence.

15 years ago, India's per capita GDP was higher than that of BD. India had a substantially larger population than BD back then too. In those 15 years India's population has grown by about 21% as against 18% in BD. So BD has been better able to control its population growth.

Also, Indian economy shrank by some 10% due to the impact Covid-19 ( official figures, mind you) and BD's economy actually grew marginally.

Truth be told, they have performed better than us. To shrug it off as a scheme where they send illegals to lower our Indices is being disingenuous and not addressing the real problem on hand.

That said, as India's recovers in the next 1-2 years one would expect India to surpass BD on this metric.
