Stuge Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 Mahendra Singh Dhoni did not relinquish captaincy of India’s limited-overs teams but was nudged by the selectors into making the “bombshell announcement” – they told him his time at the helm was up, sources said. The Indian cricket board announced on Wednesday that MS Dhoni, the double World Cup-winning skipper, had decided to step down as the captain of the one-day and Twenty20 sides but would continue playing. However, sources in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) told HT that Dhoni did not step down on his own. Selection committee chairman MSK Prasad had met the 35-year-old in Nagpur during last week’s Ranji Trophy semifinal between Jharkhand, Dhoni’s home state, and Gujarat. http://m.hindustantimes.com/cricket/ms-dhoni-did-not-give-up-india-captaincy-he-was-asked-to-go-exclusive/story-WLol2HMLSL3HP8jzbzA0aM.html Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapatalk Update: Quashing such reports, Prasad, while exclusively speaking to ANI, today said, “I have to say only this that all the reports which are coming are false. To leave the captaincy was completely Dhoni’s decision.” Indian Express Temujin Khaghan, tweaker and Ironhide 3

MCcricket Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 Makes sense, n if the case is true kudos to the selector n shame on Dhoni for being a hanger on n thinking he could captain India in 2019 lol.
King Tendulkar Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 Defo pushed. The fact bcci announced and not dhoni sums it up
sourab10forever Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 If true, who ever asked him to do so is a legend Could not have been a better time to give up captaincy. nevada 1
Temujin Khaghan Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 whatever.... dhoni's image is as strong as sachin's infact more powerful i think dhoni will definitely contest for the CM chair in his home state by the time he is 50-55... anyone else thinks so? Vilander, Rasgulla, beetle and 1 other 4

The fact bcci announced and not dhoni sums it up It's just captaincy and not retirement that he has to come out and seek media attention. He is still playing as a player. Doubt BCCI pushed him to retire. BCCI is currently broken with all the Lodha committee and stuff, they have more things to worry about then push Dhoni to give up captaincy. Vilander and beetle 2
goose Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 It's an 'exclusive' and all they can muster is 'sources said'. The shame!!! Rasgulla, sandeep, Masquerade and 3 others 6
King Tendulkar Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 Why such a shock . Yes if srini in charge this would be impossible . But obvious he should not be skipper now and time is up . Hardly beyond belief dhoni told time to step down and have him chance to do it gracefully . It's the modern way rather then outright sacking Ironhide, asterix, express bowling and 1 other 4
goose Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 It's perfectly plausible that a BCCI source has leaked information to a journalist in which case it should be cited as opinion in an opinion piece with a recognised cricket author not 'HT correspondents'.
Lannister Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 Haha I knew it. He's too pathetic and shallow individual to take such decisions that benefit the team. Thank god BCCI was not dumb enough as some posters here who were blindly supporting his captaincy. They knew their brand LOI cricket was taking a huge hit because of the recent loses. diga Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 rediff mentions some BCCI official called Chaudary& MSK Prasad to have conveyed to Dhoni ... http://www.rediff.com/cricket/report/mahendra-singh-dhoni-forced-to-step-down-as-captain-india-england/20170109.htm asterix and Ironhide 2
putrevus Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 If this is true, it takes the gloss off of all the accolades he has received so far for relinquishing the role.
gattaca Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 All dudes here laughing can't play half the cricket dhoni has. You got respect him he is the greatest ODI captain of all time. He has given captaincy. He captained India in 199 matches. If he was so interested in records he would have till 200. He has given up captaincy. Let's all be little humble shall we and enjoy the game. Just because mr verma doesn't like Dhoni and created rumors let's not disrespect the greatest captiain of all time.
