Popular Post sandeep Posted July 1, 2019 Popular Post Posted July 1, 2019 (edited) Yes, its not great losing to Englund. Yes, 338 was a gettable target against their bowling 'attack'. Yes, our batsmen did a poor job batting in the 1st 10 and last 10 overs. Yes, I'm sick and just tired of watching Dhoni tap the ball around when the need of the hour is to smack it. Yes, it looks strange and fishy when a team shuts down shop and doesn't even bother attempting to make a decent effort to chase, in the last few overs of the match. BUT, consider the following Losing this game has pretty much zero impact on our progress into Semi-final. Its not like our team 'gave up' on the game early on - we fought back well to pull Englund down to 337, from 155 in 21 overs. Even with the bat, the Kohli-Sharma partnership was steadily turning the odds in our favor until both of them got out against the run of play. The team was still methodically going about the chase, with Pant and Pandya at the crease. Once both of those guys got out - and effectively only bowlers left, the odds shifted majorly into England's favor. England bowled pretty smart in their defensive strategy - i.e. not too many freebies or gifts available. Cricket at the elite level, is a game of adapting, adjustments, and counter-adjustments. With the calm, methodical, ruthless approach, England was forced to put its best bowling plans on display - in a game that didn't really matter to India's tournament chances. Why should the Indian batting unit, even old man Dhoni and his limited 'batting', and Kedar, "show their hand" in attempting an unrealistic chase, when you have pretty much nothing to gain even if we win? Take a step back and think about the psychological implication of yesterday's game - India batted with exaggerated caution, took minimal risk, and still managed to get to a reasonably decent platform at around the 35th over - sure about 20 runs short of the perfect platform, but still decent. Even with "giving up", the team still scored 70+ in the last 10 overs, and got to within 30 runs of the target. England now know that even with an early wicket, and even with 28 runs in the 1st 10 overs, India are comfortably capable of getting to 320+ in 50 overs - more if they really needed to. Does it look good? No. Is it fair to paying spectators that after 90 overs, Indian team decided to treat the game as a glorified warm-up? No. Who gives a flying f***. Bottomline from yesterday's game is this - England needed to resort to drastic measures - 59m boundary etc, have a lot of things go their way - 155 in 21 overs, and still an Indian team got to within 30 runs of their total, without breaking a sweat, and giving up on the game in the last 6-7 overs. They know that the Indian team is capable of bettering this effort. Next time if England front up against this Indian team, there will that creeping thought in their mind - that they will definitely need each possible run that they can get on the board, to defend against this Indian team. Consider the alternative - if Dhoni & Jadhav had done what Pant and Pandya did, and gotten out in the 45th over - it would have definitely helped England take more confidence from yesterday's win, than they do today. Sure we lost the game, but there is no need to venture into tin-foil hat territory, or start throwing hate-filled feces at the team. I don't love the outcome, but its not the worst thing in the world. And from a certain perspective, it even makes a bit of sense. Popular Post maniac Posted July 1, 2019 Popular Post Posted July 1, 2019 (edited) Had we been bundled out for 130 or even allout in the 46th over and lost by 55 runs, we would have been upset but not disgusted. This loss is not upsetting it has been disgusting. Sure losses happens but when you make a mockery of people watching the game then there is all the more reason to be upset. Dont try acting like the only patriot or the only guy who figured out the philosophy that winning-losing is a part of sport on this forum. This was a disgraceful attempt. Popular Post maniac Posted July 1, 2019 Popular Post Posted July 1, 2019 We didn’t lose due to a hostile spell of bowling We didn’t lose because we lost all wickets trying to attempt a steep target by slogging. We blocked and shut down shop. Why isn’t it hard for people to understand the difference between being gutted and being disgusted. India losing to Pak in CT finals was upsetting but seeing Kohli laugh and roll around with Pakistanis was disgusting India losing the odi series to England was upsetting, Dhoni blocking the ball to rub it in was disgusting. nitinbwj Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 Don’t get fooled by the chase. We were never in it once Pandya and Pant got out. Dhoni and Jadhav were never going to hit out. They are useless anyways. beetle, Real McCoy and sergio04 1 2

zen Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 Iirc, Ind needed around 260 in last 30 overs. 338 was turned this into an extremely difficult task where only a miraculous inning could bail us out On 2nd thoughts, I think Dhoni sent the mesg that you can’t make things improbable for the middle and lower middle order The top order plays in a way where they can pick the balls to hit, while guys in the middle are left with no such option. They have to go for both the good and bad balls, increasing risks. Just because some of these guys can hit from ball 1, it does not mean you keep creating improbably situations for them mani sha, Azalakus, sandeep and 3 others 1 5

ganeshran Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 I dont think we lost this on purpose. Dhoni and Jadhav realised it was just too hard for them and waved the white flag flamy 1

For example currently we are above new Zealand. If nz lose and pak win they will be tied at 11 points What does pak need to do to overcome nz? If nz gets all out at 100 and eng chase in 10 overs and bangla get out for 100 and Pakistan chase in 10 overs even then new zealnds NRR will be above Pakistan. We are even ahead of them
