Which youngster has been handled the worst by this TM? Considering all formats

Choose just 1.

 

Only talking about those who have made their debuts, and been in multiple squads. Latter condition is important, otherwise even selectors carry blame. 

 

For me a toss-up between Vihari and Nair.

 

Vihari because he was forced to open in Australia, did well in WI where top order consistently failed, then forgotten by TM during home season. Now being played after a long gap in tough conditions. 

 

But my #1 choice will be Nair, epic 300 against Poms, then failed in a couple of home tests against Aus where most others too found it tough. After that he warmed the benches while Rahane kept on failing (home, Lanka). Without selecting him in XI for prolonged period of time, dumped from the squad as well.

I voted for Pant esp. since he has been identified as a special talent and fast tracked. We know what he had to go through ....

1. Vihari - Played in England, even opened in Australia, scored lots of runs in WI, then come the home season, gets dropped from the test squad as our Captain Doofus suddenly wanted to play 5 bowlers and bat Jadeja at 6. Had he played the home tests, his confidence could have been lot better preparing him for the tougher battles in NZ but the joker leading us thinks players are robots. They will do as he pleases.

 

2. Pant - Played 9 of his 11 tests away from home in England, Aus and WI, averaged 45+ with 50+ catches and stumpings, gets dropped for a 35 year old Saha returning after a gap of 15 months after missing almost the entire away tour cycle. On top of that, add the horrific public attacks by captain, coach and selectors on his batting, keeping and general attitude. Then out of the blue gets picked for the NZ test 11. Iamgine the mental pressure poor guy must be going through.

 

The list of victims of this TM are way too long. Kohli as the captain has to cop the blame for destroying/derailing so many young careers. End of his captaincy and even his career is not going to be good (like Dhoni).

KL- was in top form in 2016-17 and bought to a point where he cudnt by a run buy sheer insecurity and dropping him on many occasion by not giving a proper chance or despite doing well 

 

  • Was told that he ll be a backup opener after being the main opener and doing well in tough series
  • Was constantly benched in t20 despite always being a top t20 player
  • In ODI also was always dropped after 1-3 games , cud have made to bat in middle long ago

 

2nd would be Pant 

  • dropped in test wrongly
  • dropped in ODI when he scored runs in last series 

 

The reason i choose both is they are one of the best talent to have come from India and by treating them like that a huge disservice has been done to the team as well

Pant was not even allowed a chance to take off. Rahul was treated like crap despite putting up impressive numbers and clutch performance in an entire series against Australia when Birat himself went AWOL. There has to be some value for such performances, you can't just ignore it and come up with lame excuses like "he didn't score a century".

agree. Although I would reverse the order - Pant's handling has been incredibly harsh and bizarre. KL was shunted around but still managed to stay in the mix. Pant has been just publicly bullied like a rag doll. I wouldn't have been surprised if someone else in his place had asked for a mental break.

 

Kuldeep, another exception talent and our potential trump card in SENA, has also been treated as another run of the mill, use & throw player.  There's a question mark on his test career now, and he's barely in the mix for LOIs.

Pant in tests. They gave too many chances to some youngsters too who did not warrant that many chances.KL Rahul and Pandya got too many chances to stink in tests.Why is Shaw playing over Gill.

Pant got more chances than say Gill atleast in LOI. He was picked a specialist batsman in a world cup over these guys. Gill should have played home tests. But they suddenly decided to revive Rohit's pathetic Test career.
