Inspite of this kohli and shastri fan's will cry what should poor kohli do he doesn't have talent. I mean how come Gill and Pant can be left out when pant already was 2nd highest scorer in aus last time and Gill looks more solid in technique compare to Saw.

Pant is being mishandled there is no doubt about it. Granted he is no world beater at the moment but he is definitely one of the best in India. And being dropped after a 100 in his last test in Aus is something Kohli's favourites might not have endured

This is the "right" team. First time since 2015, India will have an "all right handed batsmen XI".

Pant has been a far better batsman than Rahane since his debut. Additionally he keeps. Now Rahane will captain us for 3 tests and Pant may not even be in the XI for rest of the series if Saha can score a couple of 30s here. Figure that out!!!!

 

This is how it will play out (and Aussies should tactically allow this):

 

D/N test: Saha scores 30, 35 and takes a stunning catch, no drop. So how can you drop him?

MCG: Based on previous match Saha again plays, doesn't do anything remarkable with the bat on a patta (where Pant has the ability to score match-winning 150), safe keeping so yay 

SCG: Ball turns no? We play 2 spinners and anyway Saha is better keeper against spin....still no Pant. Saha does well behind the stumps, maybe scores a 50. 

Brisbane: Last test no? Why take chance with Pant who hasn't played much cricket in a long time. Also he is 5 kilos overweight, nothing doing folks. Team which has already dropped 27 catches in 1st 3 tests needs more six-packs to enhance Kohli's fitness first mantra. Again Saha.

 

Then the Eng series, Saha preferred option in SC since we have batting cushion and moreover he is the GOAT keeper. No Pant in any of the tests.

 

Then we will go to Eng and same circus will be repeated.

Gill will do gadha mazdoori as 12th man. After Kohli departs KLR will be accommodated as #4, Gill still 12th man

It's not even as if the experience they're preferring is of Dravid's or Laxman's. It is Shaw

Surprisingly pretty standard selections here. Nothing dumb or extraordinary. I would have preferred Gill over Shaw given the current form of Shaw and good form of Gill. Apart from that what’s so controversial about this?

D/N match.  Pink ball.  Spinners avg 49.  Ashwin?  That is the biggest head scratcher for me.  All the others - Pant/Saha, Gill/Shaw, Umesh/Siraj - are toss-ups and arguable.

 

Maybe Ashwin has some new special pink ball variation up his sleeve that he has been nailing in practice.
