Kl Rahul, what is the point?

Rahul is a nervy starter. That's his problem.

In 2019 World Cup, he was okayish with runs vs Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and a slow knock vs Pakistan. But against SENA teams, he failed there.

But then he has failed overall. He should bat in middle order where the ball doesn't swing and maybe that will allow him to bat more freely and play his shots.

Average of 26 and SR of 82 with one hundred which came va Sri Lanka in 2019 World Cup.

He does the same in IPL

0 (1) Qualifire 1 RCB vs GL
9 (11) in 2016 IPL final
1 (7) in 2019 wc semifinal
3 (8) vs Pak in t20wc
78 (60) in eliminator 2022 IPL
0 (1) vs Pak in Asia cup
28 (20) vs Pak super 4
4 (8) vs Pak wc 2022

5 more matches to go , he will deliver.

1 vs Ned

1 vs Zim

1 vs BD

1 vs SA

He will definitely deliver against one of these four teams, question is can he deliver against the 4th one or in semi finals? :p:

Now watchout him bullying Netherlands and Zimbabwe. Can anyone present some stats of him in wc matches except minnows??

The whole persona of his screams "Loser"..Getting out is different thing but the mode of dismissal are almost same which annoys the * out of me...

In his own interest he should drop himself down the order.  Preferably a left handed  opener. If not  some aggressive right hander who is aggressive.  Most of his problems are self-inflicted. He defends balls that don't need to be defended half-heartedly and drags it on.

Goes missing against any sort of decent attack

Puts pressure on Rohit

Chicken **** body language perks up the opposition

Wrong! Goes missing against minnows as well. Whenever expectation is there - even an expectation that he will cash in against a minnow, he crumbles. His innings against HK in the recent Asia Cup is a case in point. This guy should be sent for immediate counseling and therapy

Hit his ego. Move him down to 4 or 5. Let Sky open.

Bring him back to open when he agrees to only hit as opener

Heck they did that to Rahul when he was going through lean patch. They swapped Laxman and Dravid. We witnessed one of the greatest test series. Rahul Dravid  never had ego about his batting position. He batted opening, batted at 3, batted at 6. Kept wickets to address the balance.  When KL Rahul was asked whether Virat will open, he said "where will i bat" lol  Like he owns the spot

Just like DK, he should not be given time to overthink in T20s push him down to No. 5 or No. 6. India will benefit from it than the current version at top.

If early wickets do happen like yesterday, he has technique to hold fort and build the innings. If good start , he can go for it from first ball.

exactly he needs to be given less time so that his instincts and muscle memory can take over he will be a monster.

He was doing fine in middle order (at least in ODIs, can't remember fully) which was a vacuum for us. That's where he ought to be moved, hard to do so in the middle of a WC.

He needs to get rid of his tentativeness, Rohit too. Fully buy into the attacking mindset even against genuine pace- easy for us keyboard warriors to say on a forum :D

But we saw yesterday, put Pak under pressure and they can fold

The other thing I dont buy fully, is the idea that he fails under pressure. He scored hundreds opening the batting in England- a very different kind of pressure, but quite something none the less.

The most mentally weak player to have played for us

He scored hundreds opening in test cricket in England. Pretty stern exam of mind and technique. A different pressure but pressure all the same.

Exactly, it is completely different. Very difficult test batting conditions in tests is different from pressure cooker T20 situations. The former is a test of batting skill.  No doubt Rahul has that. The latter a test of mental strength. And Rahul totally fails in this area.

He is meek and mentally malnourished. His mere presence at start reduces our chances to half.Just look at his depressed face and body language while he comes to bat as if someone has put his balls in frying pan.

Good post.

Im glad you saw this, I did. His body language reminds me of the Indians that were bashed and smashed from yesteryear.

Mentally, physically and psychologically beaten before facing a delivery. This then becomes contagious and spreads to the rest of the team.

This is why youth being implemented in the team is good because they have a fearless approach. Pant in Australia last tour.
