Why did Pandya slow down in 2nd half of his inning v Pakistan?

It is the problem with power hitters. Rauf was banging in hard and hitting that little strip known as, 'hard length'. Accurate fast bowling stops everyone barring some freaks like Kohli.

He was waiting for Nawaz. And probably did not want to give his wicket away with only DK to come. 

 

Many of his shots were pulled on to the ground to cut risk, when normally he would try to open up other areas as well. Also was giving strike to Kohli, who was batting well on the day.

He couldn't touch a few balls at all. That hard length slightly outside off is the biggest challenge for him on bouncy pitches.

I remember he played an over maiden off Cummins in an ODI when we needed 10-12 rpo in 2020 where he kept missing these hoicks on hard length balls.

Its not an ability issue though. He can play nice cuts but he tries to go straight or over mid-on or mid-wicket which is a difficult thing to do.

Its simple. He doesnt possess the quality to hit pacers at will. And to be honest, in Australia and against that kind of bounce, and the pace of Pakistani bowlers can be intimidating. But I have often felt the same about Pandya that he bulldozes the easier bowlers.

He didn't, he was trying to hit the pacers who knew that the place to bowl to him was hard length or short of a length outside off stump over cow corner and kept missibg. The shot he should have been trying was a hoick over cover or going over third man but it didn't come off.

He struggles for timing and plays and misses when he tries to hit too hard. You dont have much time to react against 145k plus pace on a fast pitch. He just needs to play normal proper cricket against good genuine fast bowlers, time the ball and use the pace instead of trying to slog blindly.

He was very late against those balls. He doesn't have that creativity of SKY as well.  SKY at Trentbridge stood tall against a hard length ball played a cover drive on the up with a straight bat.  Sometimes he would play the ramp against the same type of short ball.  No problem being unable to hit the hard length straight down ala Kohli. But you should be able to have other shots against such deliveries.

That was a bit disappointing. He should have nailed the first delivery from Nawaz however..

Lol people saying he is cutting down on risk. Reality is Rauf and Naseem were continuously owning him on off stump. Players like him and rizwan can do those kind of bullying against mediocre bowling and slow pitch with 65-70 meter boundaries. But hitting a fast bowler on such bouncy pitches would require skills which Pandya doesn't have. Had it been flat pich with no bounce and swing he might have got few boundaries with edges, but here inspite if slogging he couldn't able to touch single ball on offstump which clearly show his limited skill against good fast bowlers.

It was extremely good bowling, the length Pakistani pacers were bowling,it was very hard to hit for him also the waiting of Nawaz over. Maybe he waited too long..

I was actually surprised to see Axar at #5, Pandya is pretty good at hitting spin. Although Axar got run out, its good that he didn't consume many deliveries & Pandya got to show his strengths against spin.

He should look to play square with horizontal bat shots.

Pandya was very good in hitting in the midwicket area when he had that terrific ipl in 2019.. after losing form post 2019 he has changed his game

Sir Don has developed a golden touch … Miller, Tewatia, Rashid, etc., all played some of their best innings with him around … No wonder Kohli played one after 6 years with him around!
